Crisis Intervention Team Training — Peter Arno of Bangor Police Department introduced Sargent Paul Edwards, who has been trained for crisis intervention. The Department is working with the Penobscot County Sheriff Department and Eastern Maine Medical Center for crisis intervention diversion. This is a 40-hour course to be provided annually, paid by a grant from NAMI—National Alliance for Mental Illness. Sgt. Edwards provided additional information and responded to Committee questions. 2. Coordinator Contract for Homeless Continuum of Care. Shawn Yardley, Director of Health and Welfare, reported on the grant application process for the coordinator contract regarding the homeless continuum of care. It was proposed to renew the contract with Sally Healy to assist in moving this process forward. There was discussion. It was noted that Bangor receives in excess of $1 Million per year in funding for various projects, including the Shaw House, �, Community Health and Counseling, Wabanaki. Various beneficiaries of the funding include the citizens of Bangor and providing options for the Health and Welfare Department to meet housing needs. It was moved and voted to approve the contract with Ms. Healy. 3. Request to Apply for AmeriCorps VISTA Site Designation-Park Woods Transitional Housing. Shawn Yardley reported on the AmeriCorps timebank concept and background information. This has been successful in Portland and Hancock County. There is usually a one-month turn- around in hearing feedback on site designation. After discussion, it was moved and voted to approve the Director of Health and Welfare to proceed with an application for AmeriCorps VISTA Site Designation and investigate further. 4. Department Reviews were presented by Shawn Yardley of the Health and Welfare Department and Chief Cammack of the Fire Department. Meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m. � GOC Minutes/ 1-25-05 / Page 1
