"The me�ting was called to order at 7:OU P�1 and the minutes were discusszd and accegted. �recyclin�update was presented reviewing the tonnaQe's received for the months of Ju1� and:�u�*ust. Copies of a summa,r��tivere distributed. ChanQes in the data base and�e�ort��a svill be made durin�the winter manths �vith the assistance of Bill Philips. The Open House for the Baler and pro�axn chan�e was retiiewzd. Positivz areas were tiie music, media covera�e and enthusiasm displa�ed. Dick Unruh and Heather wiil chec�to s��if the notice was distnbuted throu�.h the schools. Problems may have arisen duz to confiision over the date, Friday ni�ht con�licts and the location( i�Iaine :�ve. )not being a familiar one. It appeared to be the consensus that future events should be held on\rloncia.v throuah Wednesday nights to dran the most interest. Jim s��ested that we contact John Ripley of BDN on a follow up to the dpen House as � well as a promotional lead for the newsletter. i�red PorEer of the BDN, as the en�ironmental reporter, may be interested in assisting rvith some of our recyclin� e��ents, and should be contacted. Additional e�ents ivere discussed. Pat mentionin�a potential recyclin�week in�pril or viay, "a pick up -cleanup -recycle" event promoted by Bangor Beautiful. A su�estion was also rnade to start a recycle contest with Brewer. � Heather brought up a project undertaken by a Keep America Beaut�ul (IL.AB} a.ffiliate that collected used paint on one da.y and miYed all portions together and then sold the mi.Yed paint. The su�estion met with enthusiasm and would assist in reducing household hazardous materiaLs. 11�Iotor oil and�asoline were�aLso discussed �f�VI1�Ic1 publishes a list of used motor oil receivers in the state accor�to Bill Shook. We will obta.in and distribute an up to date list. Bill aLso noted that some fire departments take combustible materials to use in their fire trainin;. The efforts of Geiry Bryant's fifth grade class to mark the catch basins in the City to oppose dumpin� - . used motor oi1 into the storm drai.ns and in effect the river were reviewed. There is no indication that this pragram will be repeated. Jane indicated that Don viahar of Eastern\�Iaine Development Corp. had obtained a�ant for Hazardous waste collection. The Newsletter cvas discussed neZt. A draft will be available at the Ban�or Beautiful office this Frida.u. Pat braught up the possibility of usin�an insert in the ne�spaper eYplaininQ our program and zncoura�ng recyclin�. Problems arising would be; cos�, sponsor ancl ciistribution. The BDI�has a large circulation and even in a limited.distribution may need support from other recyciing pr�grams in thz area to be zffective. rl su�estion was made by Doug that the En�lish • students be used as a part of a w7iting cia5s to prepare material for the netivsietter or insert. It appears that the lunch grogram will�enerate tin cans and t7ld Gt�m�ated Cart3board{t�CG}. The tin wi11 be picked up from the various schoals on the normal recycling collectian routes far the area. The OCC �vill b�scheduled for a weei�ty or biwee�lv pickup of all�f the schc�ols. Heather has men�ioned a problem she has with conflicting meeting dates as a representative tt�the Sierra Club and Dirigo Alliance meeisngs.
