HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-07-28 Airport Committee Minutes � AIRPORT COMNIITTEE MEETING CITY HALL—THIRD FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM WEDNESDAY, JULY 28, 1999 AT 4 PM Present: James Tyler, Committee Chair 7oe Baldacci, Mayor John Rohman,Member Michael Crowley, Member Judy Vardamis, Member Gerry Palmer, Council Pat Blanchette, Council Edward Barrett, City Manager Bob Ziegelaar, Airport Director JeffRussell, Airport Marketing Mgr. The meeting was opened at 4:15 PM. by Chair Jim Tyler. Items were taken up as per published agenda. Item#1 - Marketing Report. The Airport Director and Airport Marketing Manager provided the Committee with a complete overview of the Airport's ongoing marketing activities related to Domestic Air Services. Following extensive discussion the Airport • Director asked if the Committee would want to meet with the Airport's Washington based lobbyist and Marketing Research team. The Committee indicated it would like such a meeting and Mr. Ziegelaar stated he would schedule the meeting in the near future. Item#2 - Hangar Construction. The Airport Director informed the Committee that construction has commenced and that he expected it to be completed before December 1�. Item#3 - Runway Repair. Mr. Ziegelaar reported that the planning process for the runway overlay is virtually completed. Plans now call for a 3-year schedule, starting in 2001. Work would commence with 3,000 ft. sections, on either end of the runway, during the first two years. The work would be completed during the third year by overlaying the middle part of the runway at nighttime. Item#4 - Historical Item. Mr. Ziegelaar handed the Committee Chair a letter mailed from Bangor's Airport, via Air Mail, on the first day such service was initiated in 1931. The Committee decided to present the letter to the Maine Air Museum for safekeeping. Item#5 - Business Overview. The Marketing Manager reported that Finnair would be returning to Bangor for another season with near daily flights. He also stated that the issue of Cuba transits continued to be an obstacle but that it would not cause the program to be cancelled. . The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 PM. -- — - -- - - - - �- _
