Staff Attending: Jim Ring, John Murphy, Brad Moore
Meeting called to order at 4:02 p.m.
1. Sewer Abatement Request - United Bank - 145 Exchancte Street -
Jim Ring explained that United Bank was contacted by the Bangor Water District
regarding the high water consumption and upon inspection by Landry's Plumbing
and Heating, it was discovered that the water pump in the pit of the cooling
tower was leaking. As a result, water was flowing directly to the sewer. The
abatement, if granted, would be $1,060.05. This request meets the
requirements for granting an abatement. Approved.
2. Sewer Abatement Request - Paul Newman - 16-18 Willow Street
Mr. Newman has requested an abatement on the above property due to a toilet
that was left running for over three weeks. The tenant failed to notify Mr.
Newman. The toilet has since been fixed. If approved, the amount of the
abatement would be $902.42. This request meets the requirements for granting
an abatement. Approved.
3. Uudate - Staff Activities
♦ John Murphy and Brad Moore attended the Water Environment Federation
Conference held recently in New Orleans. John Murphy gave a presentation
on the Davis Brook CSO Storage Facility at the conference. Both John and
Brad felt information received at the meeting was beneficial. A copy of John's
presentation was handed out to City Councilors.
♦ The EPA and DEP performed an inspection recently at the plant. The
inspection is the first step in the reissuance of the federal wastewater
discharge permit.
♦ Over the weekend, there was a problem at the plant due to the rainstorm on
Thursday. Gravel, sand and grit clogged the inflow into the plant. Staff
worked most of the weekend and was able to get everything on line by
• Monday afternoon. There was over 30 yards cleaned out.
• ♦ Update on Center Street Project: Different signage has been done to help
answer a complaint received from the Lemon Tree Restaurant. The owner
felt his business was down partly because the signage on areas surrounding
Center indicated that the entire street was closed when only sections of the
street were closed. Jim will continue to communicate with residents in the
area and will update the Committee regularly. He has heard from some
residents indicating that they do appreciate the communication regarding the
project. Councilor Blanchette asked if Center Street would be paved after the
work this winter? Jim explained that at the conclusion of each construction
season, they take out the temporary patch and put in the permanent hot top
through the winter until the next season. ,
It was suggested to the Committee that the meeting schedule be changed to
once a month. The Committee approved to meeting once a month on the first
Wednesday of the month.
With no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 4:36 p.m.
