Schaol Cammit#ee Members present: Chauman Phyllis Guerette, Vice Chair Warren Caruso, Marc
� Eastman,Sarah Smiley,Christine Szal,and Jay Ye.
A. 1.8c�.The Bangor School Committee Regular Meeting was called to arder by Chairman Guerett� at
7;00 p.m.and the Fledge of Allegiance followed.
� 3, a. The Bangor Schoal Department and the Bangor School Committee rect►gnized, Tammy
Wyman,a Bangor Schoot Departmeat teacher who was awarded the 20I3 Special Educatar of ,
� th� Year award by Maine Administrators of Services far Children with Disabilities
(MADSEC},
b. The Bangor School Deparlrnent and the Bangar School Committee recognized, Benjamin
, Burt,a Bangor High School student for his First Pla�e win in the Cornerstone Read,Write and ,
Win Competition while attending James F. Doughty School. The cotnpetition was created
because Cornerstones af Soience knaws an appreciation for science grows out of a naturat �
� curiosity about the wark,whiah is often fed by reading scientifie literature.To encourage early
reading in science,�ornerstones hosts the Read,Write&Win contest,now in its 9th year.The
competitioa requires that students read a Carnerstones-nominated nonfsation science book and
' write a review inspired by the boak.
��f D. 1. a. Superintendent Webb recommended receipt of the First Reading of the Revised FY14 School �
� '� Budget. The final approved biennial budget shifted the State's previaus responsibility of
teacher retirement costs to local school units. Bangor received additional revenues from #he
state for the additional expenditures. Therefora, there will nat be an additional impact on the
taxpayers of Bangor.
� 2. a. Superintendent Webb pravided an up�ate on the Bangor School Departrnent's Qpening of
School. Schaal Cammittee Members expressed appreciation for the planning, hard wark,
I partnerships, focus an safety,and student success in the opening af school process. Chairman '
Guerette gave a special thank yau t� the B�ngar Folice Departrnent for their support of all
Bangor Schools. �

VOTED 6-0 to apprave the nominations as presented. �
d. Superintendent Webb reported the following donation:
Ta ths Bangor School Departrnent&am the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation,�54,000 to �
renovate th�sGage at Peakes Audito�ium.This donation was a result of a grant apptication.
VOTED 6-0 t�approve the donation from the King Foundation with great appreciatiQn. �
F. 2. Vice Chaiiman Carvso shared that the UTC Board had met. T6e enroUment at UTC is the
largest to date widi approximately 625 students attending. �
G. I. Principal Pau1 Butler pravided a report on the 1Vleine High School Assessment results fram the
24�2 2Q�3 school year. �
Schoo!Cammii#ee members asked questions and complimented the administration and facalty
for their dedication to review and use the data in order to support students' prugress. �.
Z. Assistant Superintendent Robert MacDonald reported on the Grade S and Grade 8 NECAP -
-� �` state science assessment resul#s from 2012-2t1 I3.
Commit#ee nnembers ex ressed their leasure at seein the outstandin scien�e aohieve�nent �

scares.
H. Chairman Guerette reviewed the important datcs and encouraged parents and community �
members to contaat principals or the Superintendent regarding volunteer�ng opportunities.
I. Vice Chairman Caruso highlighted the quality of the facilities and the positive impact on the �
academic and athletic enveronments for the schools and the eommunity.
Chairman Guerette echoed Mr.Carusa's statement and re-emphasized the impartance of extra- �
and co-curriculuars for the success of all students. 5he also thanked the King Foundatio� for
their donation once again and commented what a difference it will make for the renovation of
Peakes Auditorium stage floor. '
Chai�n�Guerette asked�uperintendent Webb to cla�ify the Gavee�nor's Executive Order and
the impact on the Bangor Scf�ool Deparht�ent. �
