WHEREAS, The first Arbor Day was observed 150 years ago in Nebraska, where more
than a million trees were planted; and
WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and
WHEREAS, Trees reduce the erosion of topsoil by wind and water, out heating and cooling
costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce life giving oxygen and
provide habitat for wildlife; and
WHEREAS, Trees are a renewable resource providing us with paper, wood for our homes,
fuel for our fires and beauty for our community,, and
WHEREAS, Trees, where they are planted, are a source of joy and spiritual renewal;
WHEREAS,
From the work of City departments, the City is proud to maintain our status
a "Tree C�ity" for 17 years; and
WHEREAS,
Every year for Arbor Day, Public Works facilitates City of Bangor planting
trees that come from the City nursery; and
WHEREAS,
Parks and Recreation maintains the City's many Parks and Trails, accessibIr
I
troves of natural beauty; and
WHEREAS,
The City would like to thank Public Works and Parks and Recreation as the
continue to demonstrate leadership in promoting a clean environment by
planting and caring for trees.
