That Sections 1 and 2 of Article 9, Chapter VI of the Revised Ordinances of the
City of Bangor shall be repealed and replaced with the following;
Sec. 1 Alterations of Sidewalks. The City Council or any person authorized
by them shall have the power to make
alterations in the sidewalks within the city as -he public convenience
shall require.
1. 1 installation of Curbs. The City Engineer is authorized to lay down
edge or curb stones for sidewalks on all
streets that are or shall be graded, provided the owners of land on
said streets will complete the sidewalks to the acceptance of the
City Engineer.
Sec. 2 Snow and Ice Control and Removal. It shall be the responsibility of the
x, tenant, or occupant of any
property in any commercial area in the city tc remove snow and ice
from the sidewalk bordering upon such property.
2.1 Commercial Bmf Defined. For the purpose of this Article
the commercial area in which it
shall be the responsibility of owner, foment oroccupant to remove
snow and control ice on sidewalks bordereng their property shall
be defined as follows:
Hammond Street, north side, from Court Street to the Kenduskeag
Stream:
Hammond Street, south side, from North High Street to the Kenduskeag
Stream;
FrarM n Street, both sides, from Hammond Street to Harlow Street;
Central Street, bath sides, from Hammond Street to Harlow Street;
Harlow Street, west side, from Finamdn Street to State Street;
Harlow Street, `est side, from Centex Street to Park Street;
"Park Street, both sides, from State Street to Penobscot Street;
,f State Street, both sides, from Kenduskeag Stream to Broadway;
an Exchange Street, both sides, from State Street to Washington Street:

the City of Bangor.
2.2 Removal of Snow. The owner, tenant or occupant of any property
described herein bordering upon any sidewalk in
the City of Bangor shall, within six hours after the ceasing to fall of
any snow, H in the day time, and before me o'clock in the afternoon
eeding, if in the night time, cause the same to be removed from
the sidewalk. This provision shall be construed to extend to the fall
of snow from any roof.
2.3 Ice Control. Such owner, tenant or occupant whenever any ice shall
Save formed upon the sidewalk shall cause each ice to
be removed or to be covered or strewed with sand, ashes or other
substance in such manner as to allow safe and easy travel on such
sidewalk.
2.4 Prevention of Roof Top Snow Slides. The ownersof all property
borderng on the streets and
n close proximity to the sidewalks in the City of Bangor, the roofs
of which have been covered with slate, tin or zinc, shall within 30
Saye after notice, put upon said roofs, railings or other protections
satisfactory to the City Council of Said city to prevent the slides of
ace and snow from the roofs into the streets and upon the sidewalks.
2.5 Duties of the Police Chief. It shall be the duty of the Chief of
Police to give notice to all owners
of such property to put on the roofs of the same such railings
r other guards and protections as provided above, when directed
by the City Council, if said owners reside in the city; and when no
owners side in the city, or are
unknown, such notice shall be
given to the agents of the o and in case there be no agent,
then such notice shall be given to the occupants.
2.6 Duties of the City Manager. if any owner, agent or occupant of a
store or house shall refuse, after 30
days notice as above provided, to place such railings upon the roof
as to prevent danger from the fall of ice and snow upon streets arta
sidewalks, the City Manager shall direct the same to be done and
the owner or owners of such building shall be liable to repay the
City of Bangor all reasonable charges therefor.
2.7 Violations and Penalties. Any person who shall willfully, wittingly
r carelessly micro, deface or make any
alteration in any sidewalk, or set any poets, tree or trees in any
part of the streets of the city, without the consent of the City Council,
r some person duly authorized by them; or any owner, tenant, or
occupant neglecting to comply with the provisions of this Article
shall forfeit and pay a sum not exceeding $25.00 for each and every
day that he shall so neglect.
