That the Revised Ordinances of the City of Bangor be further revised by adding
w article to Chapter It as follows:
Chapter Il, Article 34. Cultural Arts Department.
Sec. 1. Cultural Arts Department created. In accordance with Article 5, Sec. 2(a)
of the City Charter, there is hereby
established a Department of Cultural Arts.
Sec. 2. Functions of the Department of Cultural Arts. It shall be the functions of
this Department to:
2.1 Foster and develop a greater interest in the arts throughoutthe community.
2.2 Receive, review, consider and evaluate ideas and proposals for cultural
events, programs and projects as may be brought to its attention.
2.3 Assist in coordinating the scheduling of community cultural events.
2.4 Assist in providing support for cultural events, programs and projects.
Sec. 3. Cultural Arts Advisory Committee.. There is hereby authorized and established
a Cultural Acts Advisory Committee to
consist of nine persons who shall be appointed by the City Council.
3.1 Method of appointment and terms of office . Of those first appointed to
the Cultural Arts Advisory Committee, three shall be appointed to serve until
January 1, 1966, three members to serve until January 1, 1967, and three
members to serve until January 1, 1968 Thereafter three members shall be
appointed annually to serve terms of three years or until asuccessor
s duly
appointed. Any vacancy created on the Committee shall be filled by appoint-
ment by the City Council for the remainder of the term.
The Council Chairman and the City Manager shall be members ex -officio
of the Cultural Arts Advisory Committee.
3.2 Functions of the Cultural Arts Advisory Committee. The functions of the
Cultural Arts Advisory Committee shall be to hold regular meetings at least
once each month; to advise the City Manager and the City Council with
respect to the policy and administration of all Cultural Arts programs in the
City; to make monthly and annual reports of its activities to the City Manager
as requested.
