This position involves supervisory work directing difficult and varied Electronic
Data Processing operations connected with punched card accounting and statistical
records.
The employes in this class is responsible for the efficient operation of a punched
card data processing inata11at1on. bnpervlaory responsibilities include the paar ring
Of clerical, key punching, tabulating and calculating operations, reviewing flow of
work and machine utilization, and developing and programming varied machine appli-
cations. While the essential nature of this work is evperviwzy, the employee may
devote considerable time to procedural analysis in the various departments in
adapting varied accounting or clerical tanks to electronic data processing as well
an the design of report forma and source deoments. The employee worke under the
general supervision of the City Auditor.

Supervises the performance of Electronic Lets Processing machine operations,
assigns and determines priorities of work to be performed and evaluates the
performance of subordinates.
Assists and coordinates the introduction and adaption of raw procedures as
wall an programa the various machine functions.
Consults with no supervisor and ether department heads on the feasibility
of Electronic Data Prooessina applications.
Sete up machines and wires control panels in accordance with prescribed
Procedures and concrete trial testa of formats. Initiates and publishes operating
procedures, incorporating latest techniques and procedures for maohine processing
systema. Coordinates with operating sections to establish local suspense datse for
input commensurate with established reporting requirements.
Contacts department heads to discuss reporting requirements involving different
subject nutter areae.
Performa related work as required.

This is responsible work involved in the Operation of a variety of tabulating
machine equipment and in the carrying out of independent clerical aosigmments.
MoPloyses in this class are primarily responsible for the rapid add accurate
Operation of the less complex punch card raehines, incleding sorters, collators,
reproducers, interpreters and check signers. Machines are usually set up by a
supemisor, but wopleveas may do routine wiring without supervision. Werk includes
performance of clerical tasks which are carried out with instructions only upon
aslons of unprecedented situations. Supervision may sometimes be exercised
over a small group of clerks doing related work.

DEFINITION
This involves the operation of alphabetical and mmerical key punch machines
and related clerical wrk.
Work involves the rapid and accurate operation of alphabetical and numerical
key punch machine in punching coded or unsound data into tabulating canis or for
detenoining the accuracy of such punching through the operation of verifiers.
Work may also involve occasional assigonnt to operate related and more complicates
equipment such as sorting machines or such work may comprise a part of the regular
asignent when work is completely standard=nd. Assignments am received in the
form of written or typed material to be transcribed to the cards orm

punched cards to be verified for accuracy. Supervision is received
as to amount
of production, and accuracy of work is checked by means of the verifying process.
