I ......................... lntroduced: aaH filled by Councilmen 562 APPRENTICE LINEMAN DEFINITION This is semi -skilled and skilled work of the apprentice journeyman level n the maintenance, repair and installation of the municipal electrical distri- bution and transmission system. An employee in this class performs skilled and frequently hazardous tasks in stringing and malntain&ng overhead wires and underground cables in accordance with standard trade practices. Work includes the installation and repair of standard and some specialized electrical systems and fixtures. Oral or written instructions are received from a lineman foreman she checks work in progress and upon completion for conformance with etandarae. Constructs, maintains, and repairs the city electrical distribution and transmission system including stringing wires, setting poles, and installing transformers, lightning arresters, cutouts, crossams, and insulators. Maintains and repairs the street lighting circuit, pollee boxes and lights, and fire alam sprinkler systems. Installs and maintains street lights and lights for special athletic events. Performs related work as required. REQU= ENOWLEDGES, SKILLS. AND ABILITIES Aptitude for acquiring the following abilities: Knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, equipment, and materials of the electrical lineman's trade including methods and techniques involved an working on electrical power and communications equipment. Working knowledge of the occupational hazards of the electrical lineman's trade and of necessary safety precautions. Working knowledge of local and national electrical codes and regulations. Skill in the use am cares of tools and equipment of the electrical lineman's trade. Understanding and following oral and written instructions and reading and interpreting sketches, diagrams and blueprints. Climbing poles and working at considerable heights. Good physical condition and health and sufficient physical strength and agility to perform heavy marnal tasks relating to line construction and to work order any type of weather conditions. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Graduation frons a standard high school or trade school.
