Be it ordain by the GEy Cmmdloffha UAW ofBanamr. w(aAmoe: THAT the zone boundary lines as
established by the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Bangor an January 1, 1954, as "ended,
be hereby further amended as splices:
THAT a change from Residence "A^ Zane to Local Business Zona, two (2) parcels of
land on the north side of Hammond Street behind the property presently occupied by
Sullivan fartl Sales and being more particularly described as follows:
PARCEL l
8 ginning at a paint 334 feet, more r lees, from West Broadway on the south side
of Hayford Road and proceeding along said line for a distance of 243 feat, mare or lees,
to a point.
Thence in a southeasterly direction along the ear property lima of three (3) lots
facing on Webster Avenue North for a distance of 212 feet, more or lees, to a point.
Thence in a southeasterly direction along the roar property line of Sullivan fartl
Sales for a distance of 328 feet, more or less, to a point.
Thence In a northeasterly direction for a distance of 45 feet, more or lase, to a
paint.
Thence in anorthwesterly direction along the aide lot line of Magdalene M. Janes

IN RE: Change from Residence -Av Zane to Local Business Zone a Parcel of Land Adjacent
To and Behind the Sullivan Ford Sales Building an Hammond Street (Hayford Field)

Please be advised that the Planning Board has held a public hearing and given
careful consideration to the above request.
The Planning Board felt that the requested change would not be in the beat interest
of all concerned, They wino felt that it would not be stem to allow expansion of shat is
now a mnfoeaing use --into e residential a This could rales a precedent for other
commercial expansion Into residential wrong throughout the city.
While the expansion is to be used for parking and storage of c s being serviced,
as valla employee parking, any traffic relief on Hammond Street would be of short duration
because business expansion (Mich they will certainly have) would soon Put them back in the
e position an they are now --that is, needing m residential e n which to expand.
The Board questioned what effort the company has madto seek more suitable vitae for an
operation of this size or any art wept to divide its operation..
Tha development of larger "strip C rciel- areas will cause more congestion on
our streets and make our traffic problem worse in the future.
Considering all these factors and its affect a ening in the city, plus the Planning
Board's desire to maintain good zoning in Bangor, they voted to deny the request.

SUBJECT: REQUEST TO REZOiE A PARCEL OF LLND-HnYFORD FIELD AREA
I mentioned in my memo dated, november 3, 1964 that I would
present to the Recreation Advisory Committee the question of
rezoning the parcel of land adjacent to Hayford Field. This I
did on november 9, 1964.
It was their feeling that this definitely would create a
safety hazard if the ajoining area was ever developed for recre-
ation use. They also stated that trey would apDrovvofoadpartial re-
' change, that being if only the lard south of Hey£ eC
was
zoned, but it must be fenced in so that the only entrance would be
on Hammond Street.
They would like to know in advance when this will be presented
to Council, as they would like to be present. If you would let me
know the date one time, I would appreciate it.

SUBJECT: REQUEST M REZONE A P6RCEL OF LAND-EAYFORD Fl ELD AREA
As I will be unable to hold a meeting of the Recreation
Advisory Committee before the public hearing, the views expressed
are my own and not those of the committee. I have put the subject
on the agenda for our meeting that is to be held at 4:00 P.M. on
November 9, 1964. 1 will forward to you the committee's views
after that meeting. It might be advisable for you to be present
at our meeting to explain the entire situation.
It is my hope that the Recreation Department will be able to
obtain all the current goverment land east of Elizabeth Avenue to
T; used for future recreation development. My current thoughts on
the use of this land are to develop a complete recreation area that
will consist of ball fields, softball and baseball, tennis courts,
wading pool., playground, basketball courts, park area, and most
important, a Recreation Center that will serve the entire city of
Bangor.
These facilities, if they ever materialize, will doubtless
attract children of all ages. In planning the facilities, one of
the most important factzrs to consider will be the safety of the
children using the area.
It is my hope that the Planning board in considering any zoning
change will take this safety factor into consideration.
Even though I cannot guarantee that this area will eventually
became a recreation area, I have to act on the assumption that it
will, and therefore would be against anything that would create
more automobile and truck traffic in the area.

As I stated before, these are my personal feelings on the matter
