ITY CLERK Introduced and filed by Councilmen ASSISTANT PURCHASING AGENT DEFINMMN This is clerical and administrative work in the performance of central purchasing functions for the City. An employee in this class is responsible for assisting the Purchasing Agent in the execution of city purchasing activities and the procuranent of supplies, materials and equipment of desired grade and quality at prices most favorable to the City. Work involves clerical and administrative duties required for the proper processing of purchasing activities. Work involves frequent contacts with vendors and department officials and purchasing problems and on receiving and invoicing processes. Technical assistance is received in the preparation of specifications for speciol- ¢sed materials and equipment. Work is performed in accordance with established procedures and departmental rules end regulations under the guidance of the purchasing Agent. Employee exercises general supervision over clerical employees. &KAIPIAS OF WORK PEHFO= (Arty one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.) Receives and verifies requisitions and determines propriety of purchases; contacts appropriate vendors; receives and analyzes quotations and bids for relative prices and consistency with specifications. Assists Snppreparing proposals and awarding contracts to vendors for purchases under $500, and for larger purchases with the approval of the finance committee of Cie City Council, verifies commodity and service quality and quantity. Consults with other officials and with vendors on purchase needs and specifications. Assists in coordinating and consolidating the needs of various depart- ments for standardized supplies, materials and equipment. Performs related cork as required. Some knowledge of purchnsinp methods and procedures. Some knowledge of the ordinsncgs: and regulations governing Us purchasing of commodities. Some knowledge of the various Cruise and qualities of commodities purchased and of sources of supply and price trends. Some knowledge of the needs of rants served. Ability to understand accounting practice=_ as applied to procurement procedures. Some experience in commercial transactions or related work; and graduation from a standard high school, supplemented by college level courses in accountig, business management or public administration.
