Councilman C CLEHK DUMITIOIS This is technical and professional administrative work involving applies - lion of specialized knowledge on matters relating to the development of the economy of the community. The employee in this class assists the Director in gathering social, economic, geographic, engineering and related data to serve as a basis for economic development recommendations, and advising the Economic Develop- ment Committee, the City Manager, and other public officials on matters pertain- ing to economic development and related matters. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.) Gathers data and conducts studies Involving all aspects of community resources which would be of interest to potential Industries, educational Institutions, other governmental institutions or divisions, etc. Assists in the preparation of various information pamphlets, brochures and other graphic a written materials for distribution. Assists the Director In his role of liaison with existing industries and other commercial firms In the community to assist them In their operations and proposed expansions. Maintains close liaison with Planning, Urban Renewal and other related departments within the City organization. Maintains Gose liaison with existing industries in the community to assist them in their operations and in proposed expansions. Contacts and attempts to interest industrial and commercial firms from outside the city is locating branch plants or relocating existing units in the community; assists urban renewal officials In locating displaced industrial and commercial firms and In the long range planning of location of potential Industry establishment. Perforins related work as required. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Working knowledge of the objectives and principles of industrial development. Working knowledge of the resources and potentials for Industrial antl commercial development In the community. Some knowledge of economic, municipal finance, and sociology, as applied to the industrial development of a metropolitan area. Some knowledge of the city charter and of various ordinances, codes, and regulations pertaining to planning, zoning, and urban renewal. Ability to plan and coordinate departmental activities and progtnes with other municipal, public, and private agencies. ASSIS^ANT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR (Cont'd.) Ability to direct and perform technical research; to study, analyse, and present, in oral and written reports, the results of such research. Ability to present technical information clearly and in an interesting manner to lay and professional groups and the general public. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, muricipal officials, board members, representatives of other agencies and private industry, and the general public. Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and In writing. DESIRABLE EAPERENCE AND TRAINING Some responsible experience in industrial or commercial management, promotional work, Chamber of Commerce activities, or work of a similar nature; and graduation from a four year college or university with a BA degree and a major in Economics or a related field.
