CmmnLAman DATA PROCESSING MACHINE OPERATOR 049 DEFINITION This position involves difficult and varied Electronic Data Processing operations connected with punched card accounting and statistical records. The employee in this class is responsible fon the efficient operation of a punched card data processing installation. Responsibilities include reviewing flow of work and machine utilization, and developing and programming varied machine applications. The employee may devote considerable time to procedural analysis in the various departments in adapting varied accounting o clerical s tasks to electronic data processing a well as the design of report forms and source documents. The employee works order the general supervision of the Programmer -Analyst and City Auditor. EXAMPLES OF YORK PERFORMED (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed axe" lea include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.) Praises and coordinates the Introduction and adaption of new procedures as well as programs the various machine functions. Consults with the supervisor and other department beads on the feasibility of Electronic Data Processing applications. Conducts trial teats of formats and incorporates latest techniques and pro- cedures for machine processing systems. Coordinates with operating sections to establish local suspense dates for input commensurate el tb established reporting requirements. Contacts department beads to discuss reporting requirements involving different subject matter areas. Perforce related work as required. REQUIRED SOONIJDCE. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Considerable knowledge of the operation and care of data processing equip- ment wi tb special emphasis or type in present a working knowledge of the methods, principles and practices of modern severe - mental accounting and statistics. Working knowledge of office procedure and methods. ability to develop procedures and methods for punched card data processing systema. Ability to supervise the work of others. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Considerable experience in the operation of several types of data processing equipment. Degree from a four year college with major In business administration, accounting or economics preferred.
