CITY OF BANGOR, MAINE
Engineering Department
October 20, 1966
To: The Municipal Officers
Pursuant to City Council Order 69-T, passed February 14, 1966,
directing the City Engineer to prepare necessary plans and cost
estimates for the reconstruction of Center Street Avenue in each a
meaner as to upgrade said street to standards suitable for accept -
sees, the following report is submitted:
The existing right of any Is 20 feet wide and is not considered
adequate for the proper reconstruction of the street. It is pro-
posed that said right Of way be widened to 21 feet to permit the
construction of a 16 foot wide travel way consisting of a tar sur-
face on a 24 inch gravel base, with a 3 foot wide esplanade on the
northerly side and a 2 foot wide esplanade on the southerly side.
The proposed construction widths are considered suitable by the
Planning Board as noted by the attached letter from the Planning
Director.
The total estimated cost of construction is twenty-six hundred
dollars ($2,600.00), of which amount one-third, or eight hundred
sixty-six dollars and sixty-seven cents ($866.67), may be assessed
against the property which is benefited by said construction. The
tabulation of the proposed assessments Is as follows:

A questionnaire was forwarded to each of the above-mentioned
Property owners wherein they were requested to Indicate their ap-
proval or disapproval of the proposed construction. Six owners were
in favor of the reconstruction and three were opposed. It is there-
fore recommended that the roadway be reconstructed as soon as weather
conditions permit in the spring,
It Is further suggested that the necessary action might be
taken to widen the right of way to 21 feet and to accept It as a
public way so that proper maintenance of the existing street may
be undertaken prior to the reconstruction of the street.
Respectfully submitted,
