CITY OF BANGOR, MAINE
Engineering Department

TO: The Municipal Officers
Pursuant to a request of Millard F. Coffin that the right-of-
way known as Hillside Avenue extending from School Street to
Grandview Avenue be accepted as a public way and that the roadway
be constructed, and to the subsequent request of the City Manager
that field surveys, plans and cost estimates for said construction
be prepared, the following report is submitted:
Hillside Avenue is presently anunaccepted right-of-way hav-
ing a width of 50 feet and a length of approximately 1100 feet,
which was dedicated in 1899 as part of a proposed subdivision. A
roadway was constructed nor was the right-of-way ever accepted
as a public way. It is proposed that the roadway be constructed
so as to be adequate for commercial use. In this respect, it would
be necessary to widen the right -o£ -way to a width of 66 feet by
acquiring an additional 16 feet along the westerly side. The road-
way would be constructed to a width of 40 feet which would consist
of a 24 foot wide travel way and 8 foot shoulders in the fill areas
and a 40 foot wide travel way with catch basins and esplanades in
the cut areas.
The total estimated cost of this work is $41,000, of which
Dunt 50%, or $20,500, may be assessed against the properties
benefited. A list of the proposed assessments and the opinion of
the abutting owners is as follows:
