Intrroduced and filed by 0 Councilmen NURSING ATTENDPMf DEFINITION This is sub -professional trained nursing attendant work in the care of patients i municipal hospital. Work of this class involves the general duty care of patients where a registered nurse is not required but where some training in nursing technique is necessary. Care is usually provided chronic or convalescent patients. Takes and charts temperature, respiration, and pulse. Gives bed baths and simple treatments. Dresses patients, changes linen, feeds helpless patients, cleans and sterilizes dishes, bottles, and other equipment. Keeps charts and records. Performs related work as required. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES SKILLS AND AD LLITIES Working knowledge of nursing theory and practice with ability to apply appropriate nursing techniques. Working knowledge of common physical ailments, their obvious symptoms, and appropriate medical terminology. Ability to understand and carry out detailed oral and written instructions. Ability to keep simple records and to make reports. Ability to maintain a sympathetic attitude toward, and harmonious relation- ships with patients. Good physical condition and freedom from serious disease. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Some experience as a trained attendant or practical nurse; and graduation from a standard high school. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT Sufficient n ing theory and ability to apply appropriate nursing techniques, with at least one year of training in practical nursing
