Introduced 'led by ' Cowcilman I:IL 41:4\dltl Ldl January 17, 1967 T0: Merle E. Goff, City Manager FROM: Carl J. Kosobud RE: Land Acquisition on Hillside Avenue There is a 4 acre parcel on Hillside Avenue that should be considered immediately for City acquisition and use while it is still available. We have been through a round robin on this area, which is now up for sale as commercial property. It seems to me that park development for most of this piece would be better than to have same warehouse on top of Grandview Avenue. This seems to spoil our park concept for the area. The short history has been: I. Consideration that this area could be developed into the park with the 701 and open space program. 2. Clearance by the owner up for sale. 3. My request, the Council consider acquisition. 4. Building permit for upper and. 5. 2oriag ebauge ordinance (at my request). 6. Planning Board and Council turned down change - but the Planning Board recommended that the City purchase the area. I think it is vital that the City acquire a large portion of the area to prevent development. 1. This finger of commercial development will not be compatible with the public development of the area (School - Prentiss Woods). 2. Potential use of Hillside Avenue as an access to the Shopping Canter will be deterred, ^\ 3. Commercial development will act as catalyst for the eat of the e r to and including £roadway, - and extending there ever strip on Broadway will only aggravate our traffic problem there and at the interchange. Immediate action must be taken to clarify and c u-irm the City's posi- tion either way, before the owners take further action. The assessed valve of the 4+ ac site is $5,144. 1 have heard figures of as much as $20,000 as the asking price The area is outlined on the enclosed map. Encicsuve! (Coffin - approximately 2.4 ac - $2,600) (Campanelli - approximately 2.3 acres - $2,544) Cnc:jb Rawgar, sae mm o/ Maiee--ses 6ae.wy as Maier: Nana Waal mod Susbn Rears C4 of RHitsvr, ffiarre November 14, 1966 T0: The City Council PROff: The Planning Board RB: Acquisition of land on Hillside Avenue Gentlemen The Planning Hoard and the Planning Staff have c osideced the future of the Hillside Avenue area and It Is their unanimous feeling that the City of Bangor should acquireapprozlme tely 4 Acres of land on the east side of Hillside Avenue, by negotiation with the owners for the protection of the Park and Institutional area of the Nigh School complex and the development of the Prentiss Woods Nature Center. Further, that the acquisition Is not inconsistent with the projections of the "701" plan.
