PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT 210
DEFINITION
This is professional nursing work in the treatment of patients in the City
Hospital and Home.
M employee of this class personally performs nursing care of patients,
particularly those nursing techniques which require advanced skills. She is
responsible for carrying out physical therapeutic treatment to improve and
maintain rehabilitative function. Work is performed in accordance with estab-
lished rules and regulations and accepted professional practices. Special orders
are received from a physician and assistance from the staff is often needed.
Work is reviewed through periodic inspections and review of reports.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED (My one position may notinclude all of the duties
listed, nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in
positions Of this class.)
Supervises and carries out treatments of patients referred by a licensed
physician for the most complete physical rehabilitation possible.
Recommends to the administration, the equipment and facilities necessary
to carry out a program of restorativeservice.
Supervises prevention and correction Of contractures through the use of
therapeutic modalities Including splinting and bracing when prescribed.
Keeps records and charts and makes reports and observations of patient's
condition.
Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDOES, SKILLS. AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice.
Knowledge of professional physical therapeutic treatment and its appli-
cation to the patient.
Skill in the application of nursing techniques to patient needs.
Ability t0 maintain a sympathetic attitude toward, and harmonious
relationships with patients.
Ability to keep records and charts and to maker orts.
Ability to follow oral and written directions in detail.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Considerable experience in providing professional nursing care; graduation
from a, standard high school supplemented by graduation from an accredited school
of nursing.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENP
Possession of a certificate as a registered nurse as issued by the State
Board of Registration of Nurses.

DEFINITION
This is responsible work in supervising the Snow
removal and maintenance of
the Bangor International Airport streets, ramps, runway and other related public
property.
Work involves responsibility for the immediate supervision of a fairly
large groupof semi -skilled workers engaged in snow
eval, maintenance of
the streets, and other airport projects. An employee of this class instructs
subordinates and participates in the more complex maintenance work. Specific
instructions are received at the outset of new projects but the employee exercises
considerable discretion in the actual execution of tasks. Work is reviewed
periodically through inspections by a superior of areae under the airport super-
visor's jurisdiction.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED (Any one position may not include all of the duties
_ listed, nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in
positions of this class.)
Supervises and participates in snow removal of the runway, taxiways and
ramps.
Supervises and participates in the construction and maintenance of all
municipal streets and sidewalks.
Instructs personnel in the operation of heavy equipment, and where necessary,
supervises them in specific operations.
Keeps time and work records.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, WILLS, ADD ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, materials, and equip -
meet Involved in the came and maintenance of airport snow removal and general
highway construction.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
subordinate employees and the general public.
Ability to assign and supervise the work of varying sized crena of semi-
skilled workers and to obtain efficient work results.
Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety
precautions applicable to maintenance work.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE ANO TRAINING
Experience in maintenance and construction work; and graduation from a
standard high school.
