HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-02-08 103-Y RESOLVE103-Y Introduced by Councilor Ballou, Feb. 8, 1971 w CITY OF BANGOR (TITLE.) ¢SQIUE, Faveling-myenue Bha.;inv........_.____..............._____ By W City CoavzU of aim ofBaWpor: BBBOLVBD, WHEREAS, the property .tax, the principal source of municipal revenue has reached its practical limits, arA WHEREAS, the magnitude of the burdensome property tax problem will con- tinue to increase unless a solution to the financial plight of municipalities is enacted, and WH6HEAS, the state and federal governments have broader tax resources, and WHEREAS, it is critical that these broad base taxes be shared With local governments to relieve the property tax, and WHEREAS, municipalities should befreeto exercise their discretion over the use of shared revenues, and WHEREAS, the simplest, most effective and equitable way to solve the crisis n financing municipal services is through revenue sharing of federal and state tax resources NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Bangor City Council =gas the 105th Maine legislature adopt a program of STATE-MONICIFAL R ETJE SHARING and: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Bangor City Council urges the Maine Con- gressional Delegation to support passage and funding of revenue-sharing during the 92nd Congress.
