WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Bangor hereby acknowledges that a
— drug problem exists in Bangor; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Bangor wishes to take action to find
a solution to said problem,
NOW, THEREFORE, Be it Ordained by the City Council of the City of Bangor as
follows:

THAT Chapter II, Article 8 be amended as follows:
Section 6. Drug Education Committee Created. In accordance with
Article V, Section 2
{a) of the City Charter, there is hereby authorized and
established a Drug Education Committee to consist of
fifteen (15) members.
6,1 Functions of the Drug Education Committee. It shall
be the
functions of said Drug Education Committee to hold
regular meetings and to coordinate, supervise and develop
programs, to be approved by the City Council, which
will maximize public understanding of the drug problem
in Bangor and will aid in resolution of the problem.
6.2 Appointment of Committee Members and Terms of Office.
The Drug Education Committee shall consist of a
representative of the Health Department, the School
Department, the Police Department, and the Department
of Parks and Recreation. In addition,the City Council
shall appoint eleven (11) other members which shall be:

a member of the City Council, A Doctor of Medicine,
a Sociologist, a member of the Chamber of Commerce,
a Bangor High School student, a John Boast High
School student, a hospital administrator, a representa-
tive of the clergy, a representative from a local news-
paper, a representative from a local television or radio
station, and a representative from a local labor
organization.
Said appointed members shall serve for a term to
expire on Tannery 1, 1972 and shall be annually
appointed thereafter or until a successor is appointed.
6.3 Selection of Chairman. Tte Committee membership
stall annually elect one of
its members to act as Chairman of said Committee.

ORDERED,
THAT the City Council provide for the establishment of a standing
Committee on Drug Education, and
THAT the purpose of this Committee shall be to coordinate, supervise
and develop programs which will maximize public understanding of, and
solution to, the drug problem in Bangor;
And be it further ORDERED THAT this Committee shall Include the following:
1 member of the City Council
The City Health Director
The Superintendent of Schools
The Police Chief
The Recreation Director
A Doctor of Medicine
A Doctor of Sociology
A member of the Chamber of Commerce
A Bangor High School Student
A John Bapst High School Student
A Hospital Administrator
A representative from the Clergy

A Television and Radio representative
