Amending Charter of the City. of Bangor to Allow the Superintending School Committee to be Elected rather than By the aty County of the City of Bandar. ORDERED, THAT, in accordance with Title 30, Section 1914. subsection 1, the municipal officers of the City of Bangor hereby amend the Charter of the City of Bangor to need as follows and that the amendment be placed on a ballot on the ext regular municipal election held not less than (60) days after this order is passed. ARTICLE IV, Section 1, of the Charter of the City of Bangor, titled "Nominations and Elections", is hereby amended by adding the following at the end of the first paragraph of said section: ARTICLE V, Section 9, of the City Charter to be amended by deleting therefrom the first paragraph and substituting therefor the following, so that the first paragraph shall read as follows: "Section 9, Superintending School Committee. The Superintending School Committee of the City of Banger shall consist of five (5) members elected, at large, by popular vote of the qualified voters of the City of Bangor to serve for the teen of three (3) years, except that in the first instance the nominee ruing the largest total vote shall be elected to serve far three (3)yea ; the next two in total number of votes to be elected to elve for ran (2) years; and the next two in total number of votes to be ected to serve for one (1) year. If for any r ncy shall occur n the membership of the committee, the vacancy shall be filled football to by the City Council for aperiod to terminate at the next ensuing municipal election, at which time the voters shall elect a member to replace the appointee and serve the remainder of the unexpired term, or fill the vacancy if there shall beexpired term." In all other respects Section 9 to remain unchanged. (SEC. 2) Those members of the Superintending School Committee holding offices at the time this amendment takes effect shall serve for only until their successors e duly elected and qualified in accordance with the terra of paragraph one of Section 1. (SEC. 3) In case of acu ncy caused by the death, resignation, removal from the city, o m removal to office, of any member of the Superintending School Committee, the vacancy shall be filled forthwith by the City Council for a period to terminate at the next regular monist"" election, at which time there shall be elected amember who shall s me e the reminder of the unexpired term, or fill the vacancy there be no unexpired term.
