SEASONAL LABORER 610
DEFINITION
This is unskilled manual work performed on a seasonal basis in construction
and general maintenance activities.
Employees usually perform routine manaal work in the maintenance of grounds,
streets, roads, and parks. Work is usually closely supervised and the employee
receives specific work instructions at the beginning of each new Job. Two or
three other laborers may occasionally be assigned to assist the employee in the
performance of a designated task. Work may include the performance of heavy
lifting and other strenuous tasks. The duration of this work is restricted to
a specific period of time. ,
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Sweeps and cleans streets and gutters, collects and loads refuse into an
accompanying truck or movable can, and otherwise saes that assigned streets are
kept clean.
Shovels snow
and breaks Ice from streets and walks and loads snow on trucks
or piles it in designated places.
Trims and waters lawns, trims shrubs and trees, spades, rakes, and otherwise
prepares ground and assists in related groinds maintenance work.
Waters, fertilizes, and otherwise cards for flowers, shrubs, and trees as
directed.
Watches over the city dump, sees that trucks leave materials in proper places,
levels materials dumped, and watches for aid keeps dump fire under control.
Operates automotive equipment temporarily or incidentally to regular laboring
duties.
Loads and unloads stone, gravel, dirt, timber, leaves, sweepings, and other
materials.
Assists in preparing asphalt, concrete and other street repair materials,
does manual work in the building and rapai- of roads, culverts and bridges, and
does other related tasks in the maintenance and construction of municipal public
Works facilities.
Flushes and rods sanitary sewer lines, and does similar sewer cleaning and
maintenance work.
Performs related Work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE$ SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of tools, equipment, methods, and materials used in the general
maintenance of streets, sewers, and grounds.
Ability to follow simple oral instructions.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods and under
unfavorable climatic conditions.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of the eighth school grade.
Some experience in performing manual laboring work.
