Summary
This ordinance amendment would change ordinance language to clarify details about the Commission on
Cultural Development by eliminating the reference to associate members, which the Commission no longer
has, adding reference to the ability to give grants to individual artists, and allowing non -voting members on
subcommittees, in addition to several other minor edits.
These changes were approved by the Commission on Cultural Development in 2021 and approved by the
Business and Economic Development Committee on February 8, 2022.

CITY COUNCIL ORDINANCE

ORDINANCE, Amending Chapter 23, Boards, Committees and Commissions, of the Code of the City of
Bangor, By Making Updates to Article III, Commission on Cultural Development
WHEREAS, the Commission on Cultural Development feels it prudent to clarify several details in the ordinance
relating to commission membership, individual artists, and subcommittees, among other minor details;
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR AS FOLLOWS, THAT
Chapter 23 of the Code of the City of Bangor be amended as follows:
§ 23-13 Establishment; membership.
There is hereby established a Commission on Cultural Development for the City of Bangor which shall consist
of 11 members who shall be appointed by the City Council and a member of the City Council to be appointed
by the Council Chair.
§ 23-19 Authority.
The Commission is hereby authorized to:

of public art and monuments relating to maintenance needs for review and consideration by the City Council:
F. Review grant applications from arts and cultural organizations and individual artists and recommend a
course of action to the City Council for its review and consideration;
G. Provide forums for the public and citizens' groups to share their ideas, recommendations, and concerns with
the Commission as need arises;
§ 23-20 Meetings; annual report; quorum.
A. The Commission shall meet at least quarterly and, prior to DeeefflbeF 31- January 15 of each calendar year,
shall prepare and submit to the City Council an annual report outlining its activities during the preceding
calendar year.
§ 23-22 Subcommittees authorized.
