CITY COUNCIL ACTION
Council Meeting Date: February 14, 2022
Item No:22-095
Responsible Dept: Community and Economic Development
Action Requested: Ordinance Map/Lot: N/A
Title, Ordinance
Amending Chapter 95, Cultural Development, of the Code of the City of Bangor, By Adjusting Cultural Grant
Program
Summary
This ordinance amendment would change ordinance language to clarify details about the Commission on
Cultural Development cultural grant program and correct several typographical errors.
At present, grant requests are allowed for costs of supplies and materials by individual artists that are at least
initially for public use. The new language states a maximum of 50% of the grant can be for supply and
material costs and that the work must be initially accessible to the public.
At present, the maximum grant request for an individual artist is $999. The new language clarifies that these
requests may be up to and including $1,000.
The ordinance amendment would remove the words "highly weighted factors" to clarify that while
collaboration and partnerships are one of the criteria scored, it is not the most highly weighted category.
Finally, section 95-7 B. (7) would be deleted, removing the reference to giving funding preference to recurring
projects.
These changes were approved by the Commission on Cultural Development in 2021 and the Business and
Economic Development Committee on February 8, 2022.
