DEFINITION
This is professional recreation Work organizing, supervising, and
administering programa in a municipal recreation center and organising
and supervising various field activities of the municipal program.
Work involves organizing and supervising a Well rounded center
oriented program of recreational activitpe for children, teenage groups,
and adults, plus supervising various outdoor recreational activities.
Rap loyees of this class Will be responsible for managing a recreation
anter facility. General supervision is received from a superior official
who formulates policies and regulations.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES -OF WORK
Manages areation center facility; seeks to a:tracc participation
in a variety of recreational programs.
Works With various groups and agencies on matters of civic and
recreational interest; visits schools, churches, hospitals, and other
institutions to exp lads recreational programs and stimulate interest.
Participates in staff conferences; helps formulate recreational
programs; keeps records and prepares reports.
Instructs seasonal help regarding policies and regulations affecting
their work during the summer playground program.
Helps develop new programs In a recreation center and for the summer
recreation program.
Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KBOWLEOGES, SKIMS, AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of a variety of recreaticnal activities suitable
for children, teenagers, and adults.
Working knowledge of the principles and purposes of public recreation.
Working knowledge of the metbade involved In organizing, conducting, and
supervising recreation actdvites.
Some knowledge of first aid methods and of necessary safety precautions
in recreation work.
Ability to instruct and to provide effective field supervision to subordinate
recreation personnel.
Ability to gain and retain the cooperation of the community, to work
harmoniously with large groups of children, adolescents, and adults, and
to maintain interest in recreational and educational programs.
Ability to maintain records and to prepare reports concerning the
recreation program supervised.
Good health and physical stamina.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school, supplemented by E years college
level course work in education, physical education, recreation, or a related
field.
Some experience in recreation work.
