TO THE NURICIPAL OFFICERS:
Reference is made to City Council Order No. 270 -AA, passed October 10,
1973 authorizing the extension of Coffey Street for a distance of
200 feet in an easterly directionand also authorizing the installation
of 350 feet of sanitary sewer line on said Coffey Street. All work
has been completed as described below, and final costs have been
determined, as follows:
The roadway w extended for a distance of 200 feet, including the
extension of 68 perforated underdrain along both sides and the install-
ation of a new catch basin. The roadway was tarred to a width of 36
feet, with a 6' wide gravel shoulder on the southerly side. A consid-
erable amount of additional work was done along the northerly side to
eliminate an open ditch and to divert all surface water into the catch
basin system. This included the extension of the gravel base for a°
additional distance of approximately 22' to the sight -of -way line,_
including tarring. In addition, the existing roadway surface was tarred
for a distance of 350 feet from Hildieth Street to the beginning of the
new construction at the same time as the new roadway extension was
tarred. The total cost of the roadway improvements was $8,305, which
sin excess of the original estimate of $5,910; however, the overrun
is justified by the additional work described above, which is estimated
at $1,040 for the extended width of the roadway improvements along the
north side, and $1,280 for the additional tarring of the existing road-
way surface. Since the additional work is considered to be of amain-
tenance nature, and does not provide additional benefit to the abutting
properties, it is recommended that the roadway assessments be based
upon the original estimate of $5,910. On this basis, the 50% assess-
able amount. would be $2,955, assessed as follows:
NAME LOCATION -„, ASSESSMENT
Briggs Land Company North side$1"a 477.50
Auclair Transport Co. South side 1,477.50
TOTAL: $2,955.00
The sanitary sewer was installed as originally specified, cnsiNting
of 350 feet of 8' asbestos cement pipe and one 'manhole. The actual
cost of installation was $3,497,comparing favorably with the original
estimate of $3,500. Of that amount, 50%,. or $1,748.50 may be assessed
against the properties benefited as follows:
NAME LOCATION ASSESSMENT
Briggs Land Company North side $ 874.25
Auclair Transport Co. South side 874.25
TOTAL: $1,748.50
It is recommended that the assessments be levied as noted above
