HomeMy WebLinkAbout1975-08-25 333 AC RESOLVE333 AC Introduced by Councilor Bigney, August 25, 1975 CITY OF BANGOR (TIRE)¢8p(be, Cla ifyina,and 0 Laxtmg_che city C ncil'e Da fni n co Build a New Fire Station: Authorizing the Acquisition of Land for Such purposes; and Clarifying the Funding for Such Acquisition ROMHWM MCMAS, the City must Mwme its Central Fire Station from the present Union Street location for purposes of permitting the Urban Renewal Authority to complete its project within the downtown area, and NNSPLAS, the increased traffic congestion on said Union Street impairs the ability of the Fire Department to properly and promptly reapandito firm from said location, thus jeopardizing the safety and welfare Of the person and property of the inhabitauts and taxpayers of the City of Bangor; and CUBUTAS, the existing Central Fire Station is in need of considerable repair, and lacks adequate facilities to provide for the storage and maintenance of Fire Department equipment and vehicles; and wCBMS, the City Council onral previous occasions has expressed its. intent to provide for a pfire station, and has further taken action (1) to provide for the removal of the Central Fire Station on Union Street to a new location; (2) to provide for studies for purposes of determining the most proper location within the City for the new facility; and (3) to provide financing for purposes of acquisition of land for such facility, NOW, MUMPS, BY the City Council of the City Of Bangor: RESOLVED, That the City Council does hereby determine and declare that a a building is bath roasary and advisable for purposes of. providing adequate facilities for the housing and maintenance of Fire Department vehicles and equipment, and that the legislative decision of the Council to provide for such new facilities is hereby clarified and declared; and RESOLVED, That the City Council does hereby determine and declare it necessary and advisable for purposes Of pram iding adequate fire protection .for the person and property of the inhabitants and taxpayers of the City of Bangor that said new facilities be relocated to a use site within the City of Danaor; and that the legislative decision to provide for such relocation is hereby clarified and declared; end RESOLVED, That the necessary funding for the acquisition of land for the w facilities shall not exceed the total amount of Three Hundred Fifty Thousand ($350,000.00) Dollars; said funding to be provided from authorized hones previously issued for such purposes; and that the legislative decision to provide for the acquisition of land for such purposes is hereby clarified and declared; and be it further RESOLVED, That funds from bonds in the total amount of One Hundred Tbousand Dollars ($100,000.00) authorized by virtue of Council Order No. 136-X, designated for the acquisition of Sand in the Kendua4eag Stream Urban Renewal Area for such purposes, and previously issued, are hereby authorised and dedicated by said Council for purposes of providing a portion of said total land acquisition funding. STATEMENT OF FACT: Since 1969 both the Administration and the Council have been nsidering. the relocation of the Central Fire Station to a new site. in, 1970, by virtue of Council order No. 136-X, the Council authorized the issuance of $100,000 in bonds for purposes of land acquisition, purposes of a possible site within the Kendutheag Stream Urban Renewal Area:. Later in 1974, by virtue of Council Order No. 251 AS, the Council authorized the issuance of an additional $250,000 in bonds for land acquisition for such purposes.
