for the Science in Maine project

CITY of BANGOR
This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) sets forth the terms and understanding between Maine
Discovery Museum (MDM) and City of Bangor.
Background
An understanding of science and technology is critical to all people in Maine. The innovations and
solutions that are needed to address everything from climate change, spaceflight, forest products, and
aquaculture are rooted in understanding what science is and how it works. This partnership between
MDM and City of Bangor is vital as part of the Science in Maine project: the development of a science
campus in Maine that will house an ecosystem of science education, engagement, understanding, and
applications, and provide a home base for advancing science understanding in and for Maine.
Purpose
This MOU will designate City of Bangor as a partner in the Science in Maine project. As a partner, City
of Bangor will:
• Provide assistance as MDM pursues funding for the Science in Maine campus. Examples of this
assistance include providing a support letter or an introductory email.
• Connect MDM with organizations, businesses, foundations, and/or individuals who share a belief
in this vision.
Reporting
MDM will be responsible for all reporting around this project, both to partners like City of Bangor as well
as all funders.
Funding
This MOU is not a commitment of funds. MDM remains responsible for obtaining funding for the
Science in Maine project.
Duration
This MOU is at -will and may be modified by mutual consent of authorized officials from MDM and City
of Bangor. This MOU shall become effective upon signature by the authorized officials from MDM and
City of Bangor, and will remain in effect until modified or terminated by any one of the partners by
mutual consent. This MOU is intended for planning purposes around the Science in Maine project,
including but not limited to additional partnerships, feasibility study, and design and construction. This
MOU may be extended to other business planning activities. This MOU shall end at the end of the year
2025 or when the campus is complete, whichever is later.
