CITY CLERK'S OFFICE

CITY OF SAMOS, MAINE
Engineering Department May 14, 1975
TO THE MUNICIPAL OFFICERS:
Reference is made to City Council Order M. 163 Ac passed April 28,
1975 directing the City Engineer to make a cost study for the con-
struction
on-struction of the proposed roadway to serve the Brookside Borden
Apartments Subdivision located at the corner of Grandview Avenue
and Essex Street. The plans have been reviewed and cost estimates
prepared, as follows:
The proposed roadway has a total length of approximately 1970 feet,
and would consist o£'a 36 foot wide travel way having a bituminous
concrete surface with asphalt curbing. and a sidewalk on our
side,;
four catch basins and discharge culvert would be required. All
other areas within the right-of-way would be loamed and seeded.
The total estimated cost of construction is $65,000. In accordance
with Chapter 12, Article XII, Section 1.6 of the City Ordinances,
the City's share of this type of roadway would be $14.00 per foot,
making a total City share of $27,580. The developer's assessment.
would, therefore be $37,420. -
'.It is recommended that the City participate in the construction of
the proposed roadway, to be accepted asa public way, provided that
the developer enters into a agreement with the Bangor Water
District for the installation of the water mains, hydrants, and
service connections to coincide with the roadway construction, and
that the developer installs his sanitary sewer laterals within the
right-of-way.
The developer has indicated that he isn favor of the proposed
construction based upon the estimated cost.
A plan showing the proposed roadway construction is attached
Respectfully submitted,
John T. Frawley 1
