MAINE CITY OF BANGOR, MAINE Engineering Department May 8, 1975 To the Municipal officers: Reference is made to City Council Order No. 133 AC passed March 24, 1975 directing the City Engineer to make a cost study for the completion of certain streets in the Woodlawn Subdivision., in accordance with a petition -from the owner, Ernest A. Caliendo. The plana have been reviewed, and cost estimates prepared, as follows: SAFATOGE AVENUE FROM HEMPSTEAD TO BRENTMOOD This roadway would have a total length of 450 feet, and the Con- struction would include a 30 foot wide travel way having a tar surface with a sidewalk o e side, and the installation of a storm sewer and catch basins. The esplanades and the other areas o within the right-of-way would be graded, loaned and seeded... BRENTWOOD AVENUE ` This roadway would have a total length of 675 feet, with a 100 foot diameter cul at the end. The roadway would consist of a 30 foot wide travel way having a tar surface, with a sidewalk onone side. Also included would be a storm sewer and catch basins, with the esplanade and other areas within the right-of-way being provided with loam and seed. A breakdown '?O'. the estimated costs and assessments is as follows: SARATOGA AVENUE Roadway Const. Storm Sewer Const. Total City Share $ 2,810 $ 6,990 T 9,800 Private Share 7,560 6,990 14,550 Total $10,370 $13,980 $24,350 BRENTWOOD AVENUE City Share $ 4,220 $ 5,775 $ 9,995 Private Share 11,320 5,775 17,095 Total $15,540 $11,550 $27,090 Since Saratoga Avenue will benefit lots 104, 105, 106, 120 and 140 as shown on the wcodlawn Subdivision Plan, it is recommended that the total assessment of $14,550 be split equally among them, making an assessment per lot of $2,900. The Brentwood Avenue construction would. serve lots 12{9 thru 139 as shown on said Plan, and it is recommended that the total assessment of $17,095 be divided equally, making an assessment against each of these lots in the amount of $1,554. In additionto the above, there are deferred assessments on the existing sanitary sewer in these streets. It is recommended that the owner be required to install sanitary service laterals to each lot at his own expense prior to the completionof the roadway con- struction, so that no further excavation of the roadway will occur. In addition, the owner should make satisfactory arrangements with the Bangor water District for the installation of the water main and service connections to each lot as a prerequisite to the roadway con- struction. W. Caliendo has indicated his approval of the estimates shown above, and wishes to proceed with the construction. it is recommended that the necessary funds be appropriated, and that construction be start- ed as soon as possible. A plan aho'ei}Ang that proposed roadway con- structioni attached. Respectfully submitted,,'] JOM T. City Engineer
