BY W City Council orate inky ofBaawr RMLVBD, that the City Council wishes to cooperate with the State Depart- ment of Transportation relative to the development o9 a third bridge between Bangor and Brewer, and - - Beitfurther RESOLVED that the City Council has noted the various recommends- ' tlon4 of the consultants relative to the location of the above mentioned bridge,. and(while the City Council has no objection to the development of the bridge at the site of the 1-395 later age with Main Street, the City Council of Bangor also)recognlses contents of Fay, Spofford, Thormlike's report and previous studies of the matter which suggest that eventually two new Midges will be required and that at a comparatively early date in the future, traffic on the two existlrg bridges will approach present levels of use. Be it further RESOLVED that the City Council of Bangor will insist upon an Interchange design at Main Street and I-395 which will eliminate the necessity for left hand turning movements for turns on and off the new Midge, and therefore respectfully requests that the funds necessary to provide such an interchange be included in the design and estimates for the new construction. The City Council therefore wishes to establish for the record its concern that the proposed I-395 bridge may not solve the traffic problems between Bangor and Brewer and that a replacement of the old Penobscot Bridge with increased traffic capacity will be a necessity at a very early date. Be it further RESOLVED that the City Council of Bangor will insist upon an interchange design at Main Street and 1-395 which will eliminate the necessity for left hand turning movements for turns on and off the new bridge, and therefore respectfully requests that the funds necessary to provide such an interchange be included In the design and estimates for the new construction.
