Be it further RESOLVED that the City Council has noted the various recommends-
' tions. of the consultants relative to the location of the above mentioned
brldge.,an i while the City Council has no objemion to the development
of the bridge at the site of the I-395 interchange with Main Street, the
City Council of Bangor also recognizes other contents of Fay, Spofford,
Thorndike's report and previous studies of the matter which suggest that
eventually two new bridges will be required and that at a comparatively
early date in the future, traffic on the two existing bridges will approach
present levels of use.
The City Council therefore wishes to establish for the record its concern that
the proposed I-395 bridge may not solve the traffic problems between
Bangor and Brewer and that a replacement of the old Penobscot Bridge
with increased traffic capacity will be a necessity at a very early date.
Be it further RESOLVED that the City Council of Bangor will insist upon an
interchange design at Main Street and 1-395 which will eliminate the
necessity for left hand turning movements for turns on and off the new
