This is highly responsible administrative work in the supervision of the city's
public works activities, an wall as Sewer Utility "City System".
Work involves the directing of a variety of muntetpal public works activities
including highway construction and maintenance, refuse collection and disposal, and
forestry, and cemetery operations, as well as thegravelpits operation. An employee in
thin class assists his immediate superior in coordinating activities in accordance with
general policies established by the Public Services .AdmlrSatratoe and the City Manager.
The incumbact of this class exercises supervision over a large comber of unskilled, semi-
skilled, maintenance, construction and supervisory employees. Considerable initiative,
Judgment and capacity for execution are characteristic of this position, although work is
subject to general review by immediate supervisor for results obtained.
Assists in program planning for all sections of the Operations & Maintenance
Division, helps prepare the divteionts budget, assists in controling expenditures.
Advises the Director of Operations and Maintenance on all public works activities
and problems and confers with subordinates during the development and progress a various
projects. -
Assists in directing the street maintenance and repair program, including such
activities as sealing, reunrfacing, cleaning, sweeping, and patching; directs snow and
ice removal activities. Oversees the rubbish collection and dump operation whenever
necessary.
Assists in receiving, answering, and remadying citizen complaints regarding main-
tenance problems, halps in coordinating requests for emergency and unscheduled work and
Is making arrangements for their prompt performance.
REQUIRED HNGWLEDGES. SHILLS. AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of conatrwman methods, materials, and equipment utilized in
municipal public works activities.
Considerable knowledge of the modern principles, practices of maricipal public works
administration. _
Ability to "slat in -orgy ;zing, directing, and coordinating the activities a
large numbers of unskilled, semi -skilled, and skilled workers.
Ability to establish and maintain sffective working relationships with employeess
other city officials, and the general public.
Graduation from a four year college or university with specialization in civil
engineering.
Considerable experience in the design, construction, and maintenance of public works
structures and projects, including experience in an administrative capacity.
