HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-11-02 Commission on Cultural Development Minutes City of Bangor, Commission on Cultural Development November 2, 2018 8:30 a.m. Council Chambers, City Hall Attendance: Lovern Stockwell, Andrea Littlefield, Allen Adams, Jane Bragg, Liam Riordan 1. Welcome & Introductions; New Cultural Liaison 2. Approval of October Meeting Minutes 3. ARTober review Liam- Single major activity the CCD does Lovern- noted posters did not have dates and were taken down too early some places Andrea- Work to get posters earlier and assess quantity in relationship to distribution plan Jane- Main thing is to start earlier Liam- How do we do a rigorous job when Commission members do not regularly attend meetings Andrea- happy to do posters again and would like a production calendar for marketing, felt event was well attended however Jane thought not as well as last year. Allen noted people stayed longer and had a good time. Lovern- some people with children left early because of a particular performance that was not appropriate for children. Andrea- make it PG-13 to accommodate Liam- We don’t want to turn away college age arts people Andrea- we struggled to get the calendar up and it was pretty empty Liam- There is no common calendar for the arts and culture in Bangor, a longstanding concern. Is this something the CCD can take on, probably too big a task without more staff support from the City. Much work for the kickoff even (catering, programming, securing space, securing sponsorship fell to Liam and Andrea (design and printing of Artober save the date card and poster.) Jane- There is no ARTober committee. Should we have one? Liam- We should review/revise strategic plan after the new year and with our new members. Issues include: revisit committees and responsibilities, should we scale back? Revisit in January. 4. Grant Application Update and Process Overview 6 Applicants- Peace and Justice, Penobscot Theatre, Penobscot Contra Dancers, Ten Bucks Theatre, Bangor Community Theatre, Nina Jerome Liam it will be a tough choice for how to allocate funds Jane- Can we give all the $ in the fall Liam- Important to keep visibility of the CCD and arts via the spring applications and disbursement. 5. Committee Updates 6. Other Business a. Final Project Review- Peace and Justice Center Civil Right Mural Andrea would like a digital copy of the final project Future Commission Meetings (8:30 a.m. in Council Chambers): 2018-2019 December 7 January 4—I think we agreed to move this to Jan 11 so Liam can attend.
