PASSED There were no minutes to approve as there was no meeting in April or May due to the pandemic and the March meeting did not have a quorum. Barbara McDade MOVED that the July 3 meeting be moved to July 10 and that it be held via Zoom. SECONDED by Amy Roeder and PASSED. SUBCOMMITTEES Betsy reminded all committees that they are tasked with developing a new statement of goals and objectives along with the immediate tasks facing them. Grant Committee (Amy, Mary, Edythe, Jane): Betsy has received three grant applications (Penobscot Theatre, Bangor Symphony and Bangor Ballet) for the current cycle. She will review them for completeness and they will be considered at the July 10th Zoom meeting. The Creative Leaders Network, spearheaded by Brian Hinrichs of the BSO and Josh Gass of Launchpad, in non-pandemic times meets quarterly. Amy currently is a member of this group and can represent the Commission. Josh Gass attended our meeting via FaceBook and spoke about the request to City Council and to the Commission. He outlined their 3 principal points: 1) a request for emergency funding of $15,000 in addition to our regular budget of $15,000. 2) relaxing of standards so that organizations can apply for this funding even if they have received a grant in the current calendar year, and 3) these funds be approved for operational expenses. Jane spoke in favor of this request at the City Council Budget meeting on June 3. At this meeting Councilor Nichols commented that a temporary adjustment to the ordinance will be needed and this committee should work on wording to propose to City Council. Josh noted that the Creative Leaders Network would be glad to host the full Cultural Commission at a meeting. Motion made by Barbara and seconded by Lovern to that someone from the City attend the Creative Leaders Network PASSED. CARES Act - Are there funds in this legislation available for the arts? Next meeting set for Wednesday, June 10 at noon via Zoom Cultural Asset Survey Committee (Tristan, Christina, Barbara) Betsy has been meeting with Matt Bishop of the Bangor Historical Society. He will be invited to the next meeting. Betsy Paradis from the Bangor Public Library also attended the last meeting. Should she be sent an invitation to the next meeting? Consideration of developing a Historical Tour which could become a tool available for teachers. Matt is not the right person to do this. Should know soon if funding for more story maps will be approved for next fiscal year. Next meeting via Zoom next Thursday at 10:00 ARTober committee (Barbara, Christina, Lovern) Josh Gass would be glad to join this committee. He has been in charge in the past of scheduling for the kick-off event at the BAE through Launchpad. Where it is doubtful due to social distancing requirements that there can be a kick-off event in October in the same format as the past few years, there is great opportunity for creative thinking. Next meeting via Zoom Friday, June 19 at 10:00AM Next commission meeting will be the Grant Review Meeting. The meeting will be held via Zoom on Friday, July 10 at 8:30 (not July 3 as originally scheduled) Movement to adjourn made by Barbara and seconded by Christina. VOTED. Meeting adjourned at 9:20AM
