HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-10-02 Commission on Cultural Development Minutes City of Bangor Commission on Cultural Development Meeting via Zoom October 2, 2020 Minutes The meeting was called to order at 8:30 am with the following in attendance: Jane Bragg, Amy Roeder, Marge McGill, Barbara McDade, Tristan Greenlaw, Kevin Smith, Aubrae Filipiak, Mary Donovan and Betsy Lundy (City Staff liaison) APPROVED unanimously by roll call vote a motion by Kevin Smith with second by Barbara McDade to the minutes of the September APPROVED on a roll call vote with 6 yeas and one recusal by Amy Roeder a motion by Kevin Smith with second by Marge McGill to the requested change in Penobscot grant Gomez Monument Committee Report (Amy Roeder) The committee has drafted a letter recommending action which is now being reviewed and edited by city staff for review and editing. Chair Jane Bragg thanked the committee for its work and Amy Roeder thanked City Staff for their assistance. Next Meetings: Oct 8 at 9:00 followed by full commission meeting at 9:30 to vote on motion to send recommendation to City Council Grant Committee Report (Amy Roeder) Betsy will submit a weekly post about the next grant cycle which members are encouraged to like and share. The ARTober website will include information on past grant recipients and a link to the grant application. The committee is reviewing the current application process with a goal of making recommendations fro the City Council or possible adjustments. Next Meeting: Oct. 7 at 4:00 Cultural Asset Committee Report (Tristan Greenlaw) The first story map is to It was suggested that the first story map be launched as part of ARTober. Aubrae is preparing a press release. The second and third (child focused) story maps are being worked on. The fourth and final story map will focus on the visual arts. Story maps can be updated as information changes. Next Meeting: Oct. 16 at 8:30 ARTober Committee Report (Barbara McDade) ARTober website has launched. Known arts organization and events are included. Each week focuses on a different area: Performing Arts, Music, Visual Arts, and The Written Word. The Written Word week will feature at with pre-recorded readings by Bangor citizens including Ken Stack who will read an Edgar Allen Poe poem each day of the week. This year is laying the groundwork for a future ARTober to span the entire month. Next Meeting: Oct 15 at 1:00 Other Business - The commission will need to begin drafting a new policy/strategic plan document using the mission statements and objectives identified by each subcommittee.
