Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 8:31am with the following present: Jane Bragg, Barbara
McDade, Aubrae Filipiak, Lovern Stockwell, Kevin Smith, Katherine Malia, Margaret Rieley,
Angela Okafor (City Council), Tanya Emery and Melissa Bickford (City Staff)
The chair welcomed new commissioner Margaret Rieley and welcomed back Aubrae Filipiak.
The minutes of the April meeting were APPROVED by roll call vote on a motion by Barbara
McDade and second by Lovern Stockwell
Jane recused herself from the discussion and vote on Bangor Ballet’s revised grant
application and turned the meeting over to Vice Chair Aubrae Filipiak. Danielle Beaupre from
Bangor Ballet gave an overview of the project for a youth choreographic exhibition and
answered questions. The revised grant application for $2,000 was APPROVED by roll call vote
on a motion by Lovern Stockwell and second by Barbara McDade. Bangor Ballet will return
excess funds previously granted.
May Grant Cycle
Five applications have been received, one of which was deemed ineligible. Of the remaining 4,
one has been asked to submit further documentation no later than this coming Saturday. The
amount available for allocation will be $8,203. Applications have been received from the
following organizations: Bangor Y, United Way, Some Theater Company and Ten Bucks
Theater. are eligible. Information will be sent to commissioners once the additional information
has been received.
Following discussion it was VOTED by roll call vote on a motion by Barbara McDade with
second by Aubrae Filipaik to “approve the revised Policy Statement as presented by the Ad
Hoc Committee and to forward the revised document to the Economic and Development
Committee”.
Following presentation of recommended changes to the Charge and the Ordinance, it was
VOTED by roll call vote on a motion by Barbara McDade with second by Kevin Smith to
“forward the recommended changes to the Ordinance and the Charge to the Economic
Development Committee for further action”.
Aubrae reported that the Cultural Asset Committee will be conducting a comprehensive in
person audit of physical public arts and monuments in lieu of its May meeting. Commission
members not on the Cultural Asset committee are invited to participate.
Barbara McDade reported on plans being developed by the ARTober committee which includes
not hosting the traditional kick-off event at the Bangor Arts Exchange. The focus will be on
promoting events throughout the month with the hope of encouraging pop-up and other new
activities. The committee is looking for a volunteer to assist with social media. Next ARTober
Meeting: June 3 at 1:00pm
The meeting was adjourned at 9:24am on a motion by Aubrae Filipiak with second byBarbara
McDade.
