MEETING MINUTES
Commissioners Present: Bragg (chair), Filipiak (vice-chair), Greenlaw, McDade, McGill, Malia,
Okafor, Rieley, Smith, Stockwell

1. Welcome
2. Approval of minutes of May 7 meeting – Commissioner Filipiak moved approval of the
meeting minutes for May 7, seconded by Commissioner Smith. Roll call vote: Bragg, yes;
Filipiak, yes; Greenlaw, yes; McDade, yes; McGill, yes; Malia, yes; Rieley, yes; Smith, yes;
Stockwell, yes; Okafor; yes. Motion carries.

Status of policy and ordinance changes
o Ordinance and policy were approved on May 24, 2021
Budget updates
o $2,000 from American Folk Festival donation
o $1,336 from Bangor Ballet grant change
o $6867 + $2000 + $1336 = $10,203 available for possible granting
Bangor’s cultural arts organizations request for American Rescue Plan funding
o Commissioner McDade moves if money is available, send request to City Council
for additional funding, seconded by Member McGill. Roll call vote: Bragg, yes;
Filipiak, yes; Greenlaw, yes; McDade, yes; McGill, yes; Malia, yes; Rieley, yes;
Smith, yes; Stockwell, yes; Okafor; yes. Motion carries.

5. Committee Reports
Grant Committee
a. Commissioner McGill deferred report due to discussion of grant cycle
Cultural Asset Committee
a. Commissioner Filipiak provided that the committee is actively working on
physical inventory, condition analysis and cataloging.
ARTober Committee
a. Commissioner McDade advised of a big celebration planned for ARTober and
that they’ll be looking to continue to spread the word, and get further
connection to the art world

b. Bangor Region YMCA

Commissioner Filipiak moves denial of grant funding, seconded by Commissioner Smith.

McGill, yes; Malia, yes; Rieley, yes; Smith, yes; Stockwell, yes; Okafor; yes. Motion
carries.
The Commission discussed the best way to allocate funding for the proposed grants.
Commissioner McDade moves to fully fund the Bangor Region YMCA ($1,000), Ten Bucks
Theatre ($1,945), and to partially fund United Way of Eastern Maine’s request ($5,255);
seconded by Commissioner Smith. Roll call vote: Bragg, yes; Filipiak, yes; Greenlaw, yes;
McDade, yes; McGill, yes; Malia, yes; Rieley, yes; Smith, yes; Stockwell, yes; Okafor; yes.
Motion carries.
