RBBBLVBD, THAT:
WHEREAS, areview
of history reveals a unpleasant and unjustified
characteristic on the part of some people to exhibit manifestations
of owl" and religious intolerance; and
WHEREAS, during the past 50 years there have been violent examples of
such intolerance and in particular anti-semitism; and
WHEREAS, such concepts offend our national aspirations, andare ontrary
to the nature and beliefs of the American people and to the manyc
fundamentals of the American theory of government;
NOW, BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED THAT the Bangor City Council, during the
Bi -Centennial celebration of this Nation, does declare that all forms of
intolerance and discrimination, latent or open, are to be deplored; that
human behavior designed toencourage or justify anti-semitiam or any
other form of discrimination ia Considered reprehensible; and that the
people of the City of Bangor, acting through their elected representatives,
reiterate their dedication to tolerance, understanding and compassion
among all peoples.
