FOREWORD
It is the desire of the City to seep the Bangor Municipal Cemeteries
a quiet, beautiful resting place for the dead where a sense of repose
vill he obtained by dignified landscape effects on a well maintained
law. To secure these effects, toe City has spent and will passions
to expend considerable seen a coney, but to preserve these effects will
require the cooperation of every lot peace. Anything which weuld mer
the general beauty and harmny, of the cemeteries mat be avoided.
Peace and good order mat prevail, and the sacredness of the place be
maintained at all times. It is to this end that these rules and
regulations have been made effective, and the auggeationn as contained
herein are offered.

Persona desiring to purchase a lot in the Cemterisa are referred to the
Cemetery Superintendent. The Supeclatendent will base available mutable plate
Showing size and price of lots, and much other information as say be required
seal Bill be pleased to render assistance to those desiring to make lot p rchises.
Upon having made a lot selection, the Superintendent will issue a lot order to
the prospective purchaser, Wno M11 present such order at the office of the City
Treasurer in City Hall, where the lot sale will be made excel deed issued. The
Cemetery Superintendent or his assistant may act as the agent of the City
Treasurer whenever necessary.

The terms "rant Camera o "Ownership" Shall be construed to mean the rights
to u a lot or part of a lot, as purchased form the City for a consideration for
Curial purposes only, and under the rules and regulations ad preribed by the
City for such use.
Upon fell payment of the purchase price of a lot, the City M11 issue a
Cemetery deed under its seal, and the deed will be recorded in the records of
the City as evidence of ownerehap of the let.
All sandal rights inemetery lots purchased frm the City C copy the same
position a real estate at the death of the owner. Only such persons as
appear on the Cemetery records of the City will be recognized a or part
s of lots. In case of the death of a lot owner, Man the Cemetery lot is
disposed of, by will, a certified copy of the will must be delivered to the
Cemetery Superinten&eut before the City will r cognize the charge in ownership.
If the deceased Sot owner left be will, a certified copy of the proof of heirship
Cade in the District Court must be presented. Lot ownsrs, in making their wills,
should include the cemetery lot and will it to one person.
The title tea Cemetery lot invests in the owner the right to use each lot
for burial purposes only, for themselves, their heirs, or for any such persona
s they may Choose tu admit, provided such admission is free of charge and
without Compensation and in accordance unto the Cemetery Rules aid Regulations.
The lot Owners sachet resell Or transfer their lots to aqv person or persons
Whomsoever, without written notification to the Cemetery Superintendent. Row-
e, such accused portions of the lotus the owner may desire to dispose of may
be listed for sale with the Cemetery Superintendent. The City, however, assumed
no obligations for making a satie£actory sale of such lots or portions of lots.
Irate will be of such size as to accomodate , two, four, a eight, and
twelve (1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12) graves. Me cost of said lots will be as specified
herein.

All cemetery lots in the BibKor Municipal Cemeteries may be provided
with perpetual or endowed car Council Order No. BCC makes these rules
and regulations effective and provides that all future lot Balsa eha11 be
made with perpetual or endowed care at the rates as herein specified.
Pmere of lots or other interested penance may secure perpetual or endowed
care of lots in the older portions of the cemeteries by payment to the
City of the perpetual or endowed care charge at the rates Specified herein.
Me term "Perpetual or Endowed Care" shall be construed to mean the
obligation which the City aseumes to expend each year the net anrnel income
on the "Perpetual or Endowed Care" e.u?owment set aside for the lot in
furnishing such care for the lot as mowing grass and raking and cleaning
lots. It is understood that each expenditures shall be made at the
discretion end under the direction of the officer of the City in charge
of the C®etexy and that the City shall not be bound to make any separate
investment of the she of money Bet aside as the perpetual orendowed care,
but hart the same be added to the perpetual or endowed carefund of the
City Bud the proceeds therefrom used by the City ina Banner as heretofore
provided. Nothing herein shall be construed as sonifying any existing
contracts as to perpetual or endowed care.
An "Aisual Core" charge as padvided herein will be made by the City
n theose lots do the elder portions of the Cemeteries which are not at
present under perpetual or endowed care. The City reserves the right to
refuge to Pu'ueh services to those lots not ander perpetual or endowed
care or when the annual care charge has But been paid in advance.
"Annual Care" included the regular mowing of the lot, trimdng around
nnmeents and markers, fertilizing when necessary, and p[wung trees and
slssvbs, except hedges. Chargee for annual care are based upon the size of
the lot and are payable am sally in advance.

Each lot in the cemetery will, prior to its sale, be suitably marked

All general maintsware and all wrk on lots paid for by perpetual

actual or mantel anguish, in the performance of normal operations,
or loss by vandalism or other acts beyand reaswable control.

The Cemeteries an he open to visitors at all times between the
hours of 7:00 A.N. and account. Permission to enter the Cemeteries at
any other time meat be obtained from the Superintendent.
Children under fourteen years of age an be admitted only eked

Persons or picnic parties aith refreshments uill not be admitted.
Dogs an not be allowed in the Cemeteries.
Firearms all be allowed in the Cemetwisa oaly at Militeay funerals.
visitors are required to use the walks and drives and we forbidden to
trespass on aeaetery lots, or pick any flowers (either ald w cultivated)
or injure any shrubs tend, or plant, or mar or deface any monument, atom,
or structure in the Cemeteries.

All graves shall be dug by the City under the direction of the
Superintendent.
A charge for opening and closing a grave and the sodding and needing

in advance of interment.
No burial All be permitted until a legal burial permit has been
preaented to the Saperinlendent. Undertakers All be held responsible
for all intersect charges.
The lot owner or federal director shall designate the location of
the grave on the lot to the superintendent and any change of location
made after the opening of the grave bas begun shall be at the expanse of
the lot ower. The Cemetery Superintendent shall be given treaty -four hoard
notice in sa®er and thirty-six hoard notioe in ranter (free Nov. 1 -May 1)
for the opening and preparation of the grave prior to interment.
An additional charge as provided herein shall be made for a service
on Sam, Sunday, or legal holidays.
The interment of two bodies in one single grave space an not be
allowed, except in case of mother and infant, or Mdn children, or tw
cremated remains, or tw children buried at the same time. NO interment
of ary body other then that of a lumen being All be permitted.
In all interments the casket shall be enclosed in a permanent outaide

The Superintendent or his assistant is expected to attend every
interment and to see that the rules, regulations, and strict proprieties
of the place are observed.

Removal of bodies Pram graves in the Cdaet rdnn All only be made
by the Gity in accordance with the regniremevts of the Statutes of the
State. Charges made by the City for removal All be made in accordance
with the difficulty of the vurk and are payable in advance.
Owners or their heirs desiring graves opened shall aecure the
eassary disinterment permit from the City Clerk and deliver the care
to the Cemetery Superintendent. All remvals will be made by the City
order the supervision of a licensed funeral director.
For sanitnt, reasons, graves will not be reopened for inspection
except for official investigations.
Any markers or ornaments designating the location of an interment
shall be removed at the time a disinterment is made.
All stone and memrmental work shall be subject to the following
regulations and requirements:
All memorial foundations shall be placed on solid ground not
included in actual grave apace except where grave lider is of persanent
type and of sufficient strength to support weight of foundation and
memorial.
Each mmument or grave marker 12^ x 24m or over, or one foot (P)
high orv, shall Peet on a rete foundation. Ca any lot sold
after the adoption of these rules and regulations, each rnmreent or

requiring special foundation design shall be specifically approved by
the Cemetery Superintendent aid the City Enforeeer before construction.
Plane and specification for such momwents aleald be submitted to the
Cemetery Superintendent and the City Engineer for approval.
The 4oundation for grave markera and morvments will, in general,
be carried W a depth of hot less tor: five (5) feet below the ground
level. For large arbazants, the City reserves the right W require the
construction of a foundation of such size and design as will provide
ample inearance
against possible settlement or injury to the atone work.
The top of thee rete foundation will be constructed approximately
two (2) inches below the grade level.
The setting of momesenta, stoma, and markers and the transportation
of all peels, ;ateriale, one., within the Cenetery grounds shall be
subject to the supervision and control of the Superintendent. Heavy
teaming or trussing; will not be permitted within the Cemeteries when in
the opinion of the Suparintendent such work might sense injury W the

outlined above shall be completed and rubbish removed before Friday at
sunset.

Stoma or monumental work All not be permitted on a lot until the
lot is Pally paid for, and the City reaervas the right to raises
permission to asset any monmental work not in keeping vlth the good
appearance of the grounds.
Stone work or movimental work once placed on its foundation
MAI not be removed, ex ent by permission of the Superintendent
of the Cemeteries.
Markers shall be placed at the head of a grave ea platted. No
markers shall be placed nearer than /,-inches to a lot line. No more
them ane marker shall be placed at any one grave. No marker shall
embrace two or more graves unless Al graves are on the same lot owed
by one person. No marker shall be set unless it meets Ate these

Certain designated portions of the older parte of the Cemeteries
have restricted memment privileges Mich permit the erection of
monuments or grave markers of any selected rise and design. Iota in
the never sections of the Cemeteries are restrlated to Flush Markers.
Flush Markers: In sections designated as flush marker sections,
all markers shall be set so that the top is flush Mth the ground.
Flush Barkers or horizontalt on lots in those sections may
woven not exceed percent (74 of the lot area. All Flush Markers
moat be granite and shall be set on adequate concrete foundations.
Vaults and meneolerms may be placed only on such lots as may be
net aside or designated by the City for such structures. All applica-
tions for permits to erect such structures shall be made is writing
to the City Manager. Ccopltte plane and epecirieations of its
proposed Mo struetion, including details of materiels, wrlmanship,
method of construction, etc, shall accompany such application and the
approval of the City Manager shall be obtained thereon before ass,
construction work is begun. The right is reserved to prohibit the
erection of any structure that is not considered safe, suitable, or
desirable.
Before any vault or msusolaum may be erected the lot ower will be
required to deposit in the Perpetual Care Fund of tae City each amounts
as the City may deem necessary as a trust, the income from Mich is to be
need in the perpetual earn and maintenance of the stmreture and the
$+wand. Such amounts in no case shell be less than twenty-five percent

Superintendent of Cemeteries.
Vaults or mausoleums will not be permitted an lots containing
less than ons thousand (19000) square feet end the portion of the
lot occupied by the building shall not exceed twenty pareane (20%)
of the lot. The position of the building an the lot shall be as
determined by the City but in no case will permission be given to
net the building nearer to the lot lins than ten (to) feet.

All general mainteoenm in tbo Ceneteries will normally be does
by the City but lot ovnars may feel free at any time to consult
with the Superintendent regarding matters pertaining to permissible
plantings or the general care and upkeep of lots.
No person tall be permitted to trim, pram, or remove branches
from any tree or ornamental shrub is the Cemeteries except on his
owe lot. All work of promise or trimming trees and shrubs shall be
done by the Superintendent or under bis directions. Upon request
the Superintendent will do any pruning needed without charge.
Permission to plant trees or shrubs on lots shall in all cases
be obtained from the Superintendent and the City reserves the right
to remove any tree, shrub, or vine, or any part thereof which may
Mors become unsightly, dangerous, or not in keeping with the landscape
design. Many plants, especially vines, interfere with the proper care
of the lots and graves end injure the grass. Saab plants will be
removed vhen found interfering with adjacent lots. All floser beds
will be cleaned of tender plants after the first front in the fall.
Individual lot plantings may not exceed five percent (5%) of the
notal lot area and must be placed adjacent to the comment.

The payment of all fees and charges shall be made at the office
of the City Treasurer In the City Nell or to the Cemetery Superintendent,
vhere receipts will be issued for all amounts paid.
The following schedule of fees and charges is in effect and
applicable to all portions of the Bangor Municipal Cemeterian. These
fees and charges are subject to change vlthout notice at sucb tiara
ae the City may deem necessary.
