MWLVED, THAT the Bangor City Council, by adoption of this Resolve,
does hereby determine and declare that the amendment described herein to the
Bangor City Charter le desirable and necessary, and in the beet interests of
the inhabitants of the City of Bangor, and be it further
RESOLVED, THAT the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed, pursuant
to 30 M.R.S.A. 111911 at seq., as amended, to provide for published notice of
a hearing to be held at 9 P.M. on April 21, 1976, in the City Council Chambers,
for purposes of considering the proposed amendment to the Bangor City Charter,
the text of said proposed amendment and a brief explanation thereof being as
follows;
THAT Article II -A, Section 4 of the Bangor City barter is hereby repealed
and the provisions therein are replaced as follows:
'.Sec. 4 Vacancies. In the case of a vacancy caused by
&orb, resignation, removal from the City, or removal
from office, or for any other re of a" member of
the Superlatending School Committee, for more than six
(6) months prior to the next regular municipal election,
the vacancy shall be filled by a special election, the
warrant for which shall be voted upon by the City
Council and be issued by a member of the City Council
by vote designated for that. duty.
Explanation: Article II -A, Section 4 of the Bangor City Charter presently
provides for the filling of vacancies on the Superintending School Committee
at the annual regular municipal election conducted in the Fall of each year.
The Charter also provides that temporary replacements for the period prior
to the regular election will be appointed by the Bangor City Council. The
proposed amendment would require the temporary replacements to be selected
by events of a special election. In the event the vacancy would exist for a
period of lees than six (6) months prior to the regular election, no replace-
ment would be elected or appointed.
