Abatement Time Schedule Variance -

ORDERED,
THAT WHEREAS, State law requires that all municipalities
shall have best practicable treatment of wastewater prior to
October 1,_1976, and .
waREPAS, it is recognized that because of the lack of
Federal funds, it wouldbe impossible for most municipalities
to meet that deadline, and
MEREAS, the State Legislature, in recognition of the
funding problem, enacted L. D. 702 to allow the granting of
Variances to Statutory time schedules, and
WHEREAS, funds for the construction of additional
wastewater treatment facilities in Bangor will not be
available for some time due to the low priority estab-
lished'by the State,
NOW THEREFORE, be it
ORDERED, that the City Manager, acting for and on behalf
of the 4nicipal officers, be directed to apply for a variance
in accordance with the provisions of L. D. 702, now Public
Law 1975, Chapter 209] and be it further
ORDERED, that theCityManager be and hereby is authorized
to enter into an Agreement for sewage treatment services with
those persons, firms or corporations who are presently still
discharging untreated sewage which will eventually be incor-
porated into
-
poratedinto the City sewerage system when complete, said
Agreement to be in a form satisfactory to the State Department
of Environmental Protection.
