And than the mid City Enghwer met at the time and pure of meeting specified his the nausea and proceeded to ley get geld alteration, as _.follows CITY OF BANGOR, MAINE Engineering Department Beginning at the intersection of the southeasterly sight -of -way line of Main Street and the southwesterly line of West Market Square, as originally laid out and accepted as a public way known as West Market Place on June 6, 1835, and recorded in City of Bangor Read Book Volume 1, Page 32, the coordinates of said point of beginning being North 352834.84, East 429433.68, Main Street Coordinate System, Bast Zone; thence South 541 12' 00" East along the southwesterly line of said West Market Place as originally laid out for a distance of 81.32 feet to a point; thence along a curve to the right having a radius of 61.06 feet for a distance of 70.87 feet to a point, said point being at the northwesterly terminus of a public way known as Merchants Plaza; thence North 590 52' 02" East along the northerly line of said Merchants Plaza for a distance of 67.75 feet to a point, being at the northeasterly terminus of said Merchants Plaza; thence North 660 08' 20" East on a line parallel to, and 25 feet southeast from the southeasterly line of Bangor Alley as laid out and accepted as a public way on September 10, 1962 and described in City Of Bangor Road Book Volume 4, Page 334, for a distance of 144.68 feet to a point; thence South 57" 20' 16" Bast for a distance of 15.28 feet to the westerly line of Kenduskeag Plaza; thence North 12" 26. 40" West along said westerly line of Kenduskeag Plaza for a distance of 48.15 feet to a point; thence con- tinuing along said line of Kenduskeag Plaza North 151 11' 30" West for a distance of 5.62 feet to the easterly line of Bangor Alley as originally laid out; thence South 681 8' 201- West 0"West along said northerly line of Bangor Alley for a distance of 159.19 feet to the easterly line of West Market Place as originally laid out: thence North 240 02' 32" West along said easterly line of west Market Place for a distance of 201.52 feet to a point, said point being on a northeasterly projec- tion of the southeasterly right-of-way line of Main Street; thence South 201 18' 32" West along said southeasterly line of Main Street for a distance of 155.96 feet to the point of beginning. The above described area consists of a portion of the former public way known as West Market Place, the public way known as Bangor Alley, and a strip of land ob- tained by the Bangor Urban Renewal Authority from Samuel and Pauline Rudman by a deed dated May 20, 1966 and re- corded in Penobscot Registry of Deeds in Volume 2053, Page 314. Page we There is no appreciable change in the grade of the new combined right-of-way, which conforms very closely to the former grade of Bangor Alley and West market Place extending to Main Street. No person or persons appeared at the time and place set for the hearing. No damages are recommended, since there is no sight -of -way acquisition except for the strip of land adjacent to the former Bangor Alley to be conveyed to the City by Bangor Urban Renewal Authority; there is no appre- ciable change in grade, and the a s beingaused for the same Purposes as originally laid. out. The City recommends that the entire area described be named and known as West market Square. As mentioned above, the portion extending to the southwest from main Street was originally laid out as West'market Place, sometimes called West market Square, and is contiguous to the former fifteen foot wide right-of-way known as Bangor Alley, which has been widened to forty feet. Since the area is occupied by a two-way roadway between Main Street and Kenduakeag Plaza, it isfelt that it should be identified by one name only, and since most of the area has been identified as West Mrket Place or West Market Square for a period of 140 years, it is felt that it should continue to be known as West market Square and should be continued as a public way under that name. A Plan showing the proposed alterations to the laying out entitled "West market Square Kenduskeag Plaza Line - Plan No. UR 802 P-27, dated March 25th, 1974 is on file in the office of the City Engineer. Respectfully submitted, wley,J City Engineer
