CITY OF BANGOR, MAINE
Engineering Department
December 9, 1976
To the Municipal Officers:
Reference is made to City Council Order No. 188 AC passed
July 14, 1975, which authorised the construction of Saratoga
Avenue from Hempstead Avenue to Brentwood Avenue, and the con-
struction of Brentwood Avenue. All work has been completed,
consisting of the fallowing:
Saratoga Avenue, having a length of 450 feet, was constructed
with a thirty foot travel way consisting of a three inch bituminous
concrete surface on an eighteen inch gravel base and subbase. A
sidewalk was also constructed on the east side. In addition, a
new eighteen inch atom sewer was also provided, with three catch
basins, and an eight inch atom sewer and two catch basins to
intercept atom water from adjacent areae. Four inch sewer
laterals were provided to serve the adjacent lots, connected
into the existing sanitary sewer.
Brentwood Avenue, having a total length of approximately
675 feet, was constructed to a similar width and depth, with a
turnaround at the westerly end and with a sidewalk on the north
side. A new atom sewer was also provided, consisting of twelve
and fifteen inch perforated pipe and four catch basins, with a
ten inch pipe and one catch basin to intercept water from adjacent
land. Sewer laterals were also provided to the lots served, con-
nected into the existing sanitary sewer. The total completed
cost of the project was $61,311.15, which is broken down ee
follows:
Storm sanitary
Road Sewer Services Total
City's Share
$79031.25 $129553.00 0 $19,584.25
Private Share
$249428.70 $12,553.00 $4,745.20 $41,726.90
Total: $319459.95 $259106.00 $4,745.20 $61,311.15
The City's share of the road coat is computed at $6.25 Per
foot in aocordance with the provisions of the Subdivision Ord-
inance. The atom sewer coat is 50% assessable, and 100% of
the coat of the sanitary sewer services is charged to the
Developer.
The new construction benefits Lots 104, 105, 106, 120 and
129 through 1409 as shown on the Woodlawn Subdivision Pian, or
a total of sixteen Lots. It is proposed that the total assess-
ment of $41,726.90 be divided equally between the sixteen Lots,
resulting in an assessment per. Lot of $2,607.93• It is further
recommended that the assessments be levied against each Lot as
they are sold, but in any event that all of the. assessment be
paid within three years. A Plan showing the asbuilt construc-
tion is on file in the office of the City Engineer.
Respectfully submitted,
John E. Frawley,
City Engineer
