It should be noted that the City of Bangor frontage on Laurel
Street includes the previous acquisition of the High School property.
Prince Street, from the west line of Laurel Street to the
west line of Hillside Avenue
The discontinuance includes that portion of the 50 foot
right-of-way extending east from the westerly line of the Bangor
High School lot, the point of beginning being 756.7 feet east of
the easterly right-of-way line of Broadway, end extending east-
erly for a distance of approximately 383 feet to the westerly line
of Hillside Avenue, the centerline of said right-of-way being
Parallel to, and 1858 feet north from the northerly right-of-way
line of School Street.
Chapin Street, from the west line of Laurel Street to the
west line of Hillside Avenue
The portion of right-of-way to be discontinued lies entirely
within the bounds of the Bangor High School lot previously acquired
by Dead recorded in Penobscot Registry of Deeds in Vol. 1685, Page
308, more fully described as follows:
Beginning at the intersection of the centerline of said
Chapin Street with the westerly line of the School lot, said point
being 2240 feet north from the northerly right-of-way, line of School
Street, and 756.7 feet east from the easterly line of Broadway, as
measured along said Chapin Street centerline; thence in an easterly
direction along a line parallel to School Street Son a distance of
523.3 feet to the westerly line of Hillside Avenue.
Hobert Street, from the westerly line of the High School lot
to the westerly line of Hillside Avenue
Being that portion of Hobart Street which lies within the
bounds of the Bangor High School lot as described in Penobscot
Registry of Deeds in Vol. 1685, Page 3081 more fully described
as follows:
Beginning at the intersection of the centerline of said Hobart
Street with the westerly line of said High School lot, also being
on the centerline of the former right -o£ -way of Evans Street at a
point located 264.2 feet south from the northerly line of said
Hillside Subdivision, as measured along said Evans Street center -
lime; thence in an easterly direction along an extension of said
Hobart Street centerline for a distance of 1,085 feet to the west-
erly right-of-way line of Hillside Avenue.
Hillside Avenue, from Grandview Avenue to the northerly line
_ of said Hillside Subdivision
Being that portion of Hillside Avenue which lies within the
bounds of the Bangor High School lot, as described in Penobscot
Registry of Deeds in Vol. 1685, Page 308.
It should be noted that the frontages tabulated above for the
various present property owners ;az}, in some cases, approximate,
and would be subject to individual lot surveys to determine precise
distances.- In most cases, the dimensions were taken from the original
Hillside Subdivision Plan.
There appeared at the time and place set for the meeting Mrs.
Esther L. Spellman of 1 Chapin Street, and Mr. Paul Spellman. Mrs.
Spellman was advised that the discontinuance of Chapin Street would
not affect her property, since it included. only that portion which
lies within the Bangor High School:'Nlot; the existing right-of-way
in front of her house would remain. She was further advised that
the discontinuance of Evans Street along the westerly line of her
property would result in the addition of 25 feet of land to the
westerly side of her lot.
Since all of the Streets listed above have not been constructed,
and do not provide any benefit to the adjacent properties, it is
recommended that no damages be paid, and that no benefits be
assessed as a result of said discontinuance. Furthermore, it is
not necessary that the City of Bangor retain a public easement
to said rights-of-way, and it is presumed that any remaining
interests of the City of Bangor in said rights-of-way shall pass
to the abutting property owners to the center of each way. It is
further recommended that all of the Streets described above be
removed from the Official City Map.
