COMMISSION
Ug of ' 5angora'faint
DATE: December 7, 1978
TO: The Honorable City Council
-FROM: The Historic Preservation Commission
SUBJECT: Proposed Designation of the Grata M. Moore House,
69 Highland Avenue, as. an Historic Landmark under
Chapter VIT, Article 4, Section 5, of the Ordinances
of the City of Bangor.
C.O. p 414 AF -
The Commission unanimously recommends the designation by the
Council of this house as an Historic Landmark. A late Victorian;,
Eastlake -style mansion of high quality, the Grata M. Moore house
s of added interest because it was built by the Bangor construction
firm of Dole 6 Fogg and sold to Mrs. Elan G. More (unusual for the.
time) as its first private owner. It has thus been named the Grata
M. More House. No objections were made at the Public Hearing on
December 6, 1978. Me Director of the Maine Historic Preservation
Commission advises that this is an appropriate designation, and that
the house is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
