This Order would authorize an agreement with AmeriCorps for a NCCC Team for trail related work. AmeriCorps is a national community service organization funded and run by the federal government. Participants perform a variety of community service projects throughout the nation. The National Civilian Community Corps is an AmeriCorps program in which projects are completed by teams of eight to twelve members between 18-24 years old. Staff applied to have an NCCC team come to Bangor for seven weeks from early May to mid-June, which was approved. A majority of the work will occur in the Rolland City Forest with additional work happening at Prentiss Woods, Cascade Park, and Essex Woods. Government Operations Committee 04/21/2021 Recommend for passage 50 Consent 04/26/202121-162 CITY OF BANGOR ORDER 04/26/2021 21-162 Hawes Authorizing a project agreement for an AmeriCorps NCCC Team for trail related work. WHEREAS, the City of Bangor has several natural open spaces around the City that include several miles of trails; WHEREAS, these trails continue to see an increase in use each year which increases the need for maintenance and repairs; WHEREAS, federally funded AmeriCorps NCCC teams of young persons undertake service projects in communities across the nation, including work on recreational trails and outdoor spaces; and WHEREAS, it will be beneficial to the City to bring an AmeriCorps team to Bangor to complete trail related work in the City's outdoor recreation spaces; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BANGOR THAT The City Manager, or her designee, is authorized and directed to enter into a project agreement with AmeriCorps NCCC for a team to do trail work in Bangor's outdoor recreation areas in May and June of 2021.
