Stetson House as a Historic Landmatk At a Public Hearing held on May 2, 1979, the Historic Preserva- tion Commission voted unanimously to recommend that the Council des- ignate the George K. Stetson House an Historic Landmark under Chapter WI, Article 4, Section 5.3 of the Ordinances of the City of Bangor. Built in 1847, the house was designed by the noted Bangor architect Benjamin S. Deane. It is an original and provincial mansion of Greek Revival style. Much of the correspondence by George Stetson and suppliers of various ornamental features of the house survives, which addai to the historic interest of the. building. The George K. Stetson House is being carefully restored with advice from the Historic Preservation Commission, which visited it on a walking tour held on February 25, 1979. The State Historic Preservation Office participated in the walking tour and enthusiastically endorses the proposed designs• tion. Gyne to sTi cTi Historic Preservation Consultant
