Dear John:
I'm writing to you on behalf of the First Universalist Society of
Bangor in connection with a piece of property they have recently been given
up on Norfolk Street (Map 38, Lot 42) and the feasibility of providing that
lot with.munfcipal sewer service-
In my discussions with Mr. Ring of your department, we have briefly
talked about how this might be accomplished. -
By way of background imformation, this lot presently is unimproved
and I am told that there is no sewer line extendi n9 up that portion of Norfolk
Street between Montgomery and Linden. The Church has an interested buyer
who wishes to build a house on the lot which is possible under the present
Zoning and Building 'Codes. The lot can be serviced by existing water, electric
and telephone lines but the lack of municipal sewer is of concern.
I would like to request on behalf of the Church that a cost study
be done to determine the best way municipal sewer service could be furnished
to this .lot. Among the alternatives that would appear to exist would be
(a) from Montgomery Street; (b) from Leighton Street; (c) from Grant Street.
However, from what Mr. Ring tells me the Leighton Street alternative (b) is
not possible because of the difference in elevation and uphill, grade. Of
course, there may be other ways to provide the service that you might come
up with as well. -
Since the cost and availability of municipal sewer significantly
affects the market valueofthis ]at, we are most interested in not only
the cost but haw this cost is normally handled and what thoughts you might
have on this part of it. I would note that the Church does not propose to
continue owning this lot but wishes to sell it to a person t0 put a house
on.it and thereby improve its taxable value as well.
I would appreciate hearing from your department at your earliest
convenience on this so that we can firm up our arrangements with our interested
over before too much time passes. If you have any questions or need any
further information, please feel free to give me a call. We appreciate your
assistance and cooperation.
cordially,
