This Order will authorize representatives of the Flavors Hook Kids Maine Campaign to include the City of Bangor's Public Health and Community Services Department's name and logo on their partner list, fact sheet and website, and otherwise with prior written permission of the City Manager. The Flavors Hook Kids Maine Campaign seeks to prevent the sale of flavored tobacco products in Maine. With the exception of menthol, flavored cigarettes have been banned in the United States since September 22, 2009. Such flavored cigarettes were banned because they specifically appealed to children. The State of Maine followed suit and banned cigars that the Attorney General determines to have flavors of "candy, chocolate, vanilla, fruit, berry, nut, herb, spice, honey, or alcoholic drink." While the ban on flavored cigarettes and the partial ban for flavored cigars remain, other tobacco products such as electronic cigarettes and hookah, do not share the same ban. Flavors Hook Kids Maine Campaign seeks to ban the sale of flavors for all tobacco products and to eliminate any exception allowing for menthol or other flavors of such tobacco products to be sold.
